With most of my tau army almost done, (I just need three broadsides which I will be getting next month) I am now looking at different projects. While I do not have the room for a second army at the present time, I am considering making some human auxliaries for my tau army. Not sure if I would play them that often, but I like the challenge of making them.

I would like to have a mix of men and women in the force, so I turned to the Eldar guardian box. Buying one and playing with it and my bitz box I have come up with several different figures. Just one thing, wood elf capes will go on all of the models regardless as I think it looks cool.

The basic figure is pretty much a guardian body with the backpack sawed off and a cape put on the back. Wood elf heads will be used, both the ones with the hoods and with out the hoods.

The first models have the guardian gun with a cut up pulse carbine on the top. To me this looks a little to eldarish.

The next one has catachan arms. It looks okay, but maybe a little to beefy.

The last two have cadian arms with the shoulder pads trimmed down a bit. These are my favorites of the lot.

Thoughts and suggestions. I know there are mold lines, these are just mock ups and pratice models so I really do not care about that. While a full IG army could come out of this, it will not happen for a while due to costs and space issues.

As for the paint, I really want to do a digital camo theme with them for some reason.

I really like the guy with the beard (reminds me of Telion) except for his gun. As you already pointed out, it looks like a guardian rifle with bits of Tau stuff stuck to it.

The female in the last picture is also very nice. The parts match up nicely and she looks like a badass. I think a cape will add even more.

Overall I like the idea. The more you make them look less like eldar, the better, imo

I think this has the potential to really be cool looking. I think something to try, would be to square up the toes a bit. They are too pointy, which makes one think Eldar.
So far tho they are looking rather nice. Im really suprised how well Cadian arms fit on an Eldar torso. This could prove to be another cool IG conversion for someone down the road

It's a nice attempt, but the awkward fusion of that many army designs doesn't look right to me.

@ Brother SRM: I can understand the feeling and more the I look at the first two, the less I like them, so I am sticking with the last two models as my templates.

@ Cracker King: I will try to square up the toes. Any suggestions? Greenstuff or cutting them up a bit? I to was impressed with how the cadian arms fit the eldar body with a little cutting. Of course this will lead to a very time consuming unit, but oh well.

@ Lunahound: Glad you like them. I think this will be a really fun project for me.

@ Dog of War: For the beard guy, I have some more of those heads and will use them with the new version, and more capes, once I get a new glade guard box.

Well I have decided to go with the eldar bodies and cadian arms so, I will be buying stuff again, once the broadsides have been ordered. Plus I will work on the squaring of the shoes. I think some rough riders might be in order if I can get some jet bike bodies. Hum, something for me to think about.

Once again, thoughts, criticisms, and well thrown cows from catapults are welcome.

I'd say just slice straight across the pointy toe of the boot so it looks like a Cadian foot and shave off the sharp edges. Pretty straightforward and shouldn't add too much time to your conversion process.

Oh and MOAR BEARDS!

Looks like a promising idea, conversions look great.

One thing though, I believe someone else tried to do digital camo, and the general consensus was on individual infantry it will be significantly hard to do. Perhaps consider trying it on vehicles only? I applaud you if you can get the digital camo to look good on the infantry, and as I congratulate you I will send minions and steal your idea, if it's alright.

Gathering the Informations.

Awhile back someone did a kill-team in white dwarf using the Eldar Guardian bodies to make a sort of "Assassin" styled Guard team.

What I'd do, if I were you at least, is to keep the Eldar bodies and arms together, and even find a way to incorporate trimmed down Eldar helms to have a more...high tech looking Guard contingent.

We've had it drilled into us endlessly that there are all these different worlds the Guard are recruited from, so who's to say you can't have a more lithe Guard force using solid slug weapons in place of lasguns?

The Catachan arms are out of proportion; the Cadians look about right, though I can't help but feel like the legs are just a little too long and skinny--have you tried using Cadian legs?

Me being a Tau fanboy, I'd also tau 'em up a bit by giving them either tau weaponry, or bitz from tau weaponry--pulse rifle sights, Fire Warrior grenade canisters, that sort of thing.

Hmm... Looking at 'em more, I realize that their heads are also rather large. Probably won't be noticable at tabletop distance, but noticable in your photos.

I like them. I had wondered what something like this would turn out like. Sort of reminds me of the exo-suits from Crysis but with a good 40k theme.

Yeah, they all copied me!!!

It's a good idea to consider them as simply head swaps rather than conversions. If someone holds a turnip and tells me it's a carrot I will thump them and tell them it's a bloody turnip and to stop being so moronic. This is why I'm so careful not to class my own stuff as conversions but more like alterations.

Yeah the freeman army was an inspiration for these guys. One cool thing is that last night I had a crazy idea. When I order my broadsides from forge world, I will get a squad of elysians and see how their arms fit with the eldar bodies. With those guys being a bit smaller, they might fit better, and I would get to have bullpups. This of course would make them even more expensive, but starting out as a squad or two should not be to bad, I hope.

great idea but I think it would look much better with smaller arms and what nots like the cadians. Using catachan sadly are just too bulky and dont look right on the models.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!
