So anyway I have heard several mentions to the tribes of old earth in the first HH novel (only one I have read so far) in a huge war for earth before the emperor began his conquest. My questions are: what where they called, which regions (considering their not atomic dust or built over) of earth did they inhabit and what kind of tech did each faction possess?

From Lexicanum:
Lexicanum wrote:Earth and the rest of the Solar System was surrounded by terrible warp storms, isolating the human home world for several thousand years. Control of the Solar System shifted constantly between Earth and Mars during the first half of the Age of Strife. By the 28th Millennium almost all traces of civilization on Earth were long gone; instead, techno-barbarians battled one another over the scraps of the ancient culture. Little information remains from this dark time, but it is known that tyrants such as Kalagann of Ursh (northern Asia/Russia), Cardinal Tang, and "the half-mad half-genius" Narthan Dume of the Panpacific Empire ruled during this age. Other known nations include the Yndonesic Bloc, the Urals (a centre of industry), Jermani, Gyptus, Merica, the Nordafrik Conclaves, the Terrawatt Clan and Alba. Another race mentioned are the 'Nordyc' people.

Why do think the Nordafrik conclaves are form Libya/Morrocco? From the name I'd think it was scandinavian and where the Nordyc people come from.

Alos could Alba be what is now GB? In WHFB Albion is the name of the island similarly placed.

Also is it possible that the oceans had already dried up? If so, the pan pacific empire would be bloody huge!

Alba is tough. Seems like it could be a short form of "Albion", which seems most likely to me seeing as how the developers are from the Isles, and while it's earth, they can take some license with it.

Second place goes to Alberta (hey, it's in Risk) Third place to Albania (they've already covered the balkans as part of another 'bloc')

I don't know if this has any connection, but wikipedia says the following about alba and albion, respectively:
Alba is the Scottish Gaelic name for Scotland.
Albion is the oldest known name of the island of Great Britain.

Problem solved, I would say, I think.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

Im sure at least some oceans where present but by no means all. Also Im sure much was built over by hive cities or destroyed by nuclear war. When they find an ancient map of Terra in the first HH book no one recognizes it except the Emperor.

Yea it was found in a really deep cavern on some old planet, therefore it would have required humans to take it there so it must be a map of the future earth.

I thought the majority of the oceans would be around in this period althought perhaps not as we recognise them today, like polluted to hell etc with weird three-eyed fishies in em. They werent totally destroyed till Horus orbitally oribliterated them during the heresy.

Wut? The Emperor was Borne of the Souls of a Thousand Shamans in approximately 8000 BCE. He spent his life as an anonymous person trying to steer mankind from behind the reigns. Don't forget, he can make people think he looks like whatever he wants. For all we know, he could have been Napoleon
