Hey, I'm new to this site, and I apologize if this thread has been done before but I'm curious. Who on this site is a Canadian Gamer? And not only that but I would like to find out who lives/has lived in a small town. And what do you do if there is a very small demand for Wargaming and you have to do without a GW?
Just something to talk about, and I'd like to know if people find it a struggle when you're not living in a big populated city with far more diverse interets as well as more resources. Or if the demographic difference has never really bothered you much.
P.S go canucks!
haha

I used to live in Kensington (population 1300) on PEI and so twice a week I drove 45 minutes to Charlottetown to game. It was always well worth the trip. I live in Winnipeg now (population 620 000) and there are at least a dozen stores to game at including a Games Workshop store.

Wow that's a small place. But It's cool you managed to keep up with your hobby. I wonder how far someone would go to keep gaming? 45 minutes is pretty impressive.
Is there anyone out there farther North? It seems to me the majority of gamers are more Easterly situated, which is cool I didn't realize how widespread this was. But is there anyone who comes from the redneck country?

I technically live the absolute fail called the Greater City of Sudbury (northern Ontario) but truly i live in a little town 40 minutes outside of it called Whitefish(population: so spread it out really doesn't matter). It is worth the 40 minute drive most of the time but sometimes me and the gang (a few other in whitefish that got me into the game) rent out the community center for as many games as we can get in until we get too tired to finish
Its nice to live in a small community but I'm moving to ottawa next school year (university transfer WOOT) and can't wait to live in a big city (by my standards).

Calgary, AB, baby. Used to live in a small town, but it's pretty close to Calgary, only about 40 minutes to the GW/the sentry box.

Where is Deer Lake? I'd consider Fort St. John (where I was born qualifies for redneck country) it's 4 hours north of Prince George. To find it on a map, look for british columbia and go waay north-west.
But most of the smaller cities in alberta are pretty redneck too! lol. But I do like Calgary.

I grew up in a small twon called Dutton (1000 people at the time) which is about 25 minutes SW down the 401 from the outskirts of London Ont. I got into the hobby because the legion in the neighbouring town of 800 people would hold a game day every sunday for about a year where people would play magic, D&D, Epic, Car Wars and other games. Once the legion threw us out for witch-craft (playing D&D/Magic/etc.) I needed to find a new place to ply the bigger wargames, luckily that same year GW opened their first store in the Whiteoaks mall in London. So I started getting a ride into to london to play occasionally on tournament nights and what not until I got a car at 17 and then drove myself/buddies there.

Lots of gamers in Edmonton.
|
Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Rick Priestley said it best:
Bryan always said that if the studio ever had to mix with the manufacturing and sales part of the business it would destroy the studio. And I have to say – he wasn’t wrong there! The modern studio isn’t a studio in the same way; it isn’t a collection of artists and creatives sharing ideas and driving each other on. It’s become the promotions department of a toy company – things move on!

@Ciaphas-Cain: Sudbury would be a comparative PARADISE compared to where I am right now...
I'm in Sault Ste Marie Ontario (70k people). At least Sudbury is a 4 hour drive from Toronto (instead of 8!)
There is a gaming club here which rents out space on a bi-weekly basis... A new store with 2 tables also opened up here recently. There is no other towns with hobby support closer than Sudbury on our side, and naught on the US side as well... in fact the local club attracts people from the US side, as there isn't much going on in Michigan closer than Traverse City / Cadillac - (realisticaly, I'd figure you'd have to go as far as Saginaw/Flint/Detroit to get any sort of real gamer demographic).
I've also lived in:
Kitchener Ontario: Pheonix Rising (formerly the Nexus) is a fixture FLGS. Demographics: 2 universities and a college in the tri-cities area (Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge)
Waterloo Ontario: J and J Hobbies has tables but it's worth the drive to Pheonix Rising
Guelph Ontario: This was a long time ago... don't know if the FLGS is still there.
London Ontario: Imperial Hobbies has a nice gaming area and there is also a GW outlet in London. For a city of 350k, London is WEAK SAUCE when it comes to gaming... one would think that it'd support more stores, but it does not.
Hamilton Ontario: This was a long time ago, at the time Skyfox carried GW product.
Toronto / GTA: Stores of note:
Many GW outlets - a new one just opened in Ajax.
Two Headed Dragon - North York
Heroes World - Markham
Dueling Grounds - South West Toronto (almost Etobicoke)
Chatham Ontario: Just passing through, but there is a gaming/comic store with table space.
