Hi all,
I've recently gotten back into 40k modeling and painting, and am having to teach myself to paint again (it's been 10 years!). I'm also having a good go at green stuff work for the 1st time. My chosen chapter is the white panthers.

I'm currently working on:
A tactical squad (primarily to practice on)
A re-posed dread
A deathwatch killteam
An assault squad (retinue for a shrike-like character i'm planning)

Pics:
Tac squad - still need to do the banner, shoulders, and maybe a bit of weathering. I found the black quite hard to highlight. I've also since got a better method of doing white armour (which i'm using on the dread), but that's what they were for - practicing!

Dread - re-posed using a razor saw, some green stuff, and an old pair of headphones. As you can see I got bored and started painting the base. I'm still deciding which bits of the dread to make which colour according to the colour scheme.

Killteam - done the cheap way, plastic marines with plastic deathwatch shoulder pads from bitzbox, and wire + GS work to make the bolters a bit special. Played about with GS to make the robe and cord, and of course the most fun bit - the termegant head ripped out of the body complete with spine! I really enjoyed doing that.

Assault squad - just white undercoat on them so far - nothing to see really

Please feel free to comment, add helpful criticism, advice etc.

Thanks for looking!

PS: if anyone can help me with getting some more lightning claws, a shrike, assault terminators, a 60mm (dread size) base, or any small clear flying bases I would be eternally grateful!

Very nice looking force so far, the panthers have a very striking colour scheme and you've certainly painted them well.

With regards the parts you are looking for, if you don't get any volunteered your way, I have used Bitz Box and Bits and Kits to order parts from and both have proven extremely reliable companies.

Thanks for the kind comments guys. MeanGreen, i'm glad you like the panthers scheme - it's a bit of a pain to paint compared to chapters with one colour armour but I think they look good. I do use bitzbox, and find it really good, I just try to get what I can second hand.

Update wise, I've managed to secure the complete marines (commander, dread, termies, tac squad) from AoBR for £20 which i'm pretty happy with, so that'll fill out the force a bit.

Enjoying a nice single malt and painting my killteam - very pleasant way to spend a few hours.

Some really sweet green stuff work, there.

If I might suggest, I think your bases would look more "finished" if you painted the rims a different color than black.

Maybe a medium brown to match the sand on top (this would be favorite if you have a matching table at home you primarily play on), or a darker brown if you prefer a contrast.

That is some quality greenstuffing right there especially on the rope.
I also have to say that the colour scheme is striking and great to look at, definitely worth the extra time you put into it.
Are you going to try and paint the panther logo freehand onto the banner or something else?

The quality is super, very good detail and pleasing to the eye, keep up the good work. The dreadnought will be an interesting piece to paint under the same scheme so look forward to seeing the finished product

The colours suit the name very well too

Thanks for the compliments on the GS work guys - very kind. I'd like to add that i've not been doing it long at all, so if I can do it so can you!

I've thought about this before, maybe i'll do some test figures and see what I think. I don't actually game so the table thing isn't an issue for me.

Cheers. It's very easy to do actually. You get two blobs of the same size, let it cure a bit, use a clean flat surface like a mirror/glass to roll out two long thin lengths, press the ends together, then spin up from the end to make a length of rope.

I was thinking about getting some of that transfer printer paper for panther symbols, but I think I might bite the bullet and improve my freehand skills!

Looks good, particularly the white on the armor which I know can be a real pain. The dread looks like it will be really sweet when done.

Update time.

I've been sent to North Wales on placement for 8 weeks, so I've taken what I could with me to keep me amused when it's raining and i'm stuck inside not working.

The killteam is largely done, though no pics yet. The dread is even more nearly finished, but annoyingly I didn't bring the custom base up with me! Here are some pics anyway.

Still have to highlight the ribbed rubbery bits, the sarcophagus, and fix up the smudged terminator cruciform, not to mention a freehand white panther icon on the shoulder. I'm not sure how happy I am with the 'FELIX' scroll, as the pen has turned grey from black, and doesn't look to clear. Might have to re-do it. It was my first time at a vehicle, so I went to town with the weathering, and it was really good fun to do.

Here's a stylized pic of a panther I got from Google which I want to turn into a large banner for a company standard bearer

Thanks for looking, C&C please as always

I like the color blocking on your general squad. It's characterful without being distracting.

O H I am in the Webway...

It all looks pretty nice. The yellow on the tac squad is really nice, it isn't to bright or overpowering.

Basically I had some extra mixed greenstuff so I thought i'd customise it a bit - basically just added an auxiliary barrel on the bottom, could represent some sort of combi-weapon I suppose. I also did a headswap from a shouty-marine face, and modded the power fist into a lightning claw using some spare daggers.

Today, I have been mostly doing OSL. This is an advanced technique, and it's my first try at it, so it may not look quite up to everyone's standards and still needs some refining, but on the whole i'm quite happy with the effect, especially on the Deathwatch power fist. Still got a bit to do on these guys - chapter markings on right shoulders mostly. I'm having trouble with my finetip pen.

I'm really happy with how the termegant spine and great vessels came out, my first major 'freehand' greenstuff work.

Let me know what you all think, and any helpful criticism is welcome

I've pretty much finished my chaplain in terminator armour, and I have to say I enjoyed painting him so much. The level of detail on the mini is fantastic, and it really 'paints well', if you get my meaning.

I'm not sure about the base right now, I feel like the bright green grass is a little too cheerful, but I don't know if I could be bothered to remove it and replace it with dead looking grass. Just a small thing.

The eyes need a bit of work too, trying to get them a bit more alive.

What do people think of the yellow storm bolter? It's my attempt to make him tie in with my White Panthers force.

your OSL looks good , i recommend using yellow more as it looks alot better in you'r chase(and on black in general..) imo

Nice work on the minis though

Thanks. Do you mean because it goes better with the colour scheme? I don't think the photos do the green justice, because the lighting is terrible, and they're very zoomed in

I think it pops out the black more , looks better( becouse i love yellow , so that does'nt count for much ) and the glowing effect seems to work much better with yellow than green

Hello all, thought i'd revive this thread since i've been doing some more work on these guys. I have a second modded dread (this time a dakka dread with assault cannon and missile launcher), an assault squad, a land speeder, a terminator squad, a second tac squad, and a command squad all in the pipeline. Plus, in the post, are shrike, calgar, and some scouts, plus some SW terminators with LCs.

Basically i'm thinking I need to add some character to this army. Being panthers, they need claws - so, a modified shrike's wing, and a modified SW terminator squad will serve as the claws, then some scouts will be the sneaky nature of the panther. I'm thinking of some special paint-schemes for these special squads, possibly making the termies and the shrike wing all white, and the scouts all black.

Opinions on a postcard please!

Well, aside from the White Panthers, i've decided to make a diorama. I had an idea of something I thought could be pretty cool, so i'm working it out now, bit by bit.

I have a sentinel and a valkyrie, both in various stages of painting and construction, but as for this blog I thought i'd make a little scrapbook of ideas for the dio

I want my Valk to look like this: http://www.double-eagle.co.uk/?cat=10
With the Hind gunship style camo scheme.

The sentinel will look like a cross between a powerlifter from FW, and the Aliens powerloader:

There will also be a lictor, which I plan to make from plastic bitz like this one by insaniak:
