I posted about this in the Painting & Modelling forum, admittedly, but consider this more a log of progress than me asking questions about conversion routes to take. I'll update as frequently as I can, I'm trying to do something on the Fire Prism at leat once a week, once a day if I have the time.

Sticking to a very simple colour scheme of black, white and scarlet for my Harlequins with characters and vehicles getting extra colours to help them stand out. I don't want to have an Harlequin force that's chaotic to look at, I want some uniformity (though each is painted uniquely, of course) so that they're good to look at. I'm more of a painter than a player too, so as a usable army my Harlequin force is probably massively illegal... but then I never did update from 2nd Edition rules, and only just managed to get myself off 1st edition. I've not even looked at 4th Edition rules now I think about it... anyway, rambling... another update when I've done more.

That's a nice start, the red and black give you a striking base colors.

Green gems would create more contrast to the hull colors, but the purple doesn't look too bad either.

Not updating from 2nd edition seems the way to go with Harlequins

I like the Checks. The trouble with trying to color contrast is that sometimes there's
something just off from the tones you've selected. I think the muted purple works
nicely in this case.

I agree entirely. Don't the new rules have Harlequins just being a special Eldar unit now? I don't know, I stopped paying attention to GW's constant rule revision when they butchered things with 3rd Ed. Don't even get me started on what they did to the Avatar ¬.¬

But yes, I wanted to avoid massive contrast and chaotic colour schemes, otherwise I probably would have gone with the green gems suggested above. The purple crystal is a great theme to carry through on everything, gives me a break from the boring work of red, white and black. I'm hoping to having another update today, but we'll see.

Update time!

The upper hull is completely painted and varnished but for the underside which will be painted and varnished at construction stage. The underside of the turret is painted but not varnished and the designs have been etched out on the turret upper hull. I've done the turret cockpit canopy to match the main one, the fogging thanks to it being fully painted and having to be carefully stripped back and polished. The fogging could be eliminated if I had a ball-shaped fine sanding tool and a polishing tool to match, but I don't, so it has to stay like this.

The crazy angle the tank sits at is due to the massive weight of the Fire Prism, I'm not sure if later models had lighter metal, but this was one of the first so may even be before GW started with the lighter metal, but I'm not sure. I'll be keeping this angle for it since it'll show off the underside and looks dynamic. I have to source a larger base for greater stability, but not so large that it's bigger than the tank.

looks awsome great work.

Listen, my children, as I pass onto you the truth behind Willy Wonka and his factory. For every wonka bar ever created in existance, Mr. Wonka sacraficed a single Oompa Loompa to the god of chocolate, Hearshys. Then, he drank the blood of the fallen orange men because he fed them a constant supply of sugary chocolate so they all became diabetic and had creamy, sweet-tasting blood that willy could put into each and every Wonka bar. That is the REAL story behind willy wonka's Slaughter House!

i think its looking great so far but i think the diamonds really could do with just a highlight in the corners to make them pop a bit more.

I never like to highlight designs, I think in most cases it looks tacky. I've chosen to highlight according to where the light falls rather than highlighting elements of the design instead since I think that looks better. There is a patchwork harlequin falcon, I think it is, that has each diamond highlighted and it just looks weird to me.

I must punish myself with tiny things, it would appear. For some reason, I thought it would be a good idea to have a mural of the Laughing God symbolically represented within the webway painted on the interior of this Fire Prism. With hindsight I should have painted the design on paper and glued it in to the interior instead of trying to get a brush in there.

Mad, I tell you, I'm absolutely mad. Inspiration for the face came from the old Harlequin Jetbike canopies. I love my new 4/0 brush, it's my baby.

Wait - So you painted the interior after assembling the model? You've done a B****y good job, I can tell you!

Being insane has it's draw-backs, but it most certainely has it's bonuses!

Well, you're 4/0 brush seems to like your painting style, man. Look after the little dude!

Model was partially assembled, so the crew compartment was done in two halves... still, would've liked to have been able to flatten it all out to paint it instead, would've been a lot easier!
