Where do I find background info on Chaos - apart from the Codex?

Making no mistakes is what establishes the certainty of victory, for it means conquering an enemy that is already defeated.

Lexicanum! basically the Wikipedia of Warhammer. Although daemons may be very vague.

I've sold so many armies. :(

That's what im finding is that Marines have volumes of lore and history while the daemons are very sketchy and details are unclear.

Yeah... I'm sorry see I'm marines and I myself know very little.

The fantasy book though goes very much in detail, and I rather like how chaos is a culture not just what it is in 40k.

Describes Khornate and Slaaneshi daemons for the most part. Otherwise it's not worth it as most of the fluff is -sadly- obsolete.

Sweet but does GW have anything recent and/or up to date?

You'd be looking for both Codex: Chaos Daemons and Daemons of Chaos Army Book. Sure the latter is for fantasy, but both reveal different pieces about the nature of the four gods.

Aside from that, Slaves to Darkness and Lost and the Damned are pretty much the most awesome resources...assuming you want to shell out close to $1000 to find both of them in good condition. A copy of the collected Liber Chaotica would be much less pricey and also include boatloads of win.
