What do you think of the ABC (not the American one) as opposed to the other mainstream TV channels?

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I don't watch TV much anymore, it has some good shows, and then some that are boring beyond belief.

Why?

I think the ABCs are excellent.

My reading skills have improved quite a bit since I learned them, and I hope that next time you'll sing with me.

Dude, that's old school.

You need Hooked on Phonics or if you live in the inner city you need "Hooked on Ebonics".

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Haven't watched TV in about 5 years, but I have my car radio tuned pretty much exclusively to ABC Radio National or ABC News Radio...

I watch a heap of GO! since it started, especially in primetime. It just has decent shows on ATM.

ABC 2 has some good stuff too.

ABC... I used to watch the news but I use the HD channel and that runs NSW news in the evening, not Brisbane.
The odd doco is alright but there is too much on the other free to air digital channels, and with Channel 7-2 starting soon all the good US shows that 7 deem great to show at 10pm will suddenly become primetime again.

I watch cable mostly, the only stuff that brings me to free to air is ABC stuff. Four Corners and Media Watch, Spicks and Specks, QandA, At the Movies.

Only radio I listen to Radio National and News Radio.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Sebster you watch pretty much exactly what I do.

I am also an avid AM listener but also listen to our local 4BC talk back station allowing people to think they are giving it to 'the man'.

I don't have Pay TV as I had the choice between net or Pay TV and internet is more fun. And if we had Foxtel all I'd do is watch TV, or at least flick channels.

I mostly watch cable but there are a few shows I do watch on FTA (free-to-air ie, broadcast) and even a couple from the AB frigging C.

Tend to ignore anything from the maestros of unfunny (that'd be Denton, A; Anderson, W and Chaser, the whatever). Their brand of humour never appealed to me.

That said, spicks and specks is epically funny, and Burn Notice on 10 is pretty funny too (I mainly watch it for the speaking chin - but Gabrielle Anwar is still nice to look at).

I'm OVER 50 (and so far over everyone's BS, too).

A friend took a photo of their head office in Sydney when we walked past once, had stickers all over it as well. I think it sums up the general opinion of them.

Yes every sign had that sticker over the word broadcast.

That's an very stupid thing to stick on, considering it's Seven and Nine who broadcast utter bs 'news' programs.

True, but I guess they already thought of that, but didn't like how it sounded. They might have done it there as well, I don't know, I didn't go anywhere near either. Going past ABC was only a coincidence to begin with

Versteckt in den Schatten deines Geistes.

Nothing wrong with ABC. They're not full of gak like 9, or full of imitation gak that's trying to be like 9's gak like 7 has.

I respect Channel 10. They have always been the alternative to the other Channels. It's like on every Federal Budget night:

  • Channel 9 does their serious coverage of the budget.

  • Channel 7 tries to copy Channel 9.

  • ABC does their coverage of the Budget in a serious but different manner.

  • Channel 10 plays Simpson re-runs!!!

  • It's like they know they can't win, so they'll just give everyone who doesn't want to watch the budget coverage an alternative.

True, but the problem is Australia only has 3 good Free-TV channels(7, 9, 10), if you want seriously good stuff, you have to buy Foxtel...

    Australia, mate

SBS is still going strong. It has South Park, Drawn together (sometimes) Flight of the Concords (sometimes), endless WW2 documentaries, dateline, lots of Eastern European films about how bleak life is and pseudo-porn on Friday nights.

Gonads is right, GO! is a good channel at the minute.

    I can't get it.
Our TV antenna is not suited to digital receiving (got to get it looked at, and satellite fox does not pass it on - like 7, 9 or 10. We get ABC1, 2 and 3,and the 2 SBS channels though.). There are two ways to get Fox. Cable (traditional) and outside of major cities, "satellite" bounce. This is considered to be a rebroadcast, and Fox isn't allowed to transmit the three FTA channels over it.

Watching digital broadcasts through the TV tuner is like watching "super extreme Battling seizure robots". So we get 7,9 and 10 through analogue until they kill the signal.
