On the heels of the "why I hate Dark Eldar thread" I wanted to propose a solution to the vexing questions of what next for the Dark Eldar. Some have suggested giving the line to Forge World. Sadly, this would price the models out of reach. Therefore I suggest that a liberal "counts as" policy be officially adopted by GW. You see there is a particular race, the Eldar, who already possess models that would easily work as dark eldar too. A bright lance is a dark lance after all. My proposal would allow the Dark Eldar player to keep the rich fluff behind their army while enjoying access to a whole new range of models. In order to make the Dark Eldar more popular I would also suggest that GW stop printing their codex and release it as a .pdf instead.

Why not just make conversion kits for Dark Elves? I already use Executioners with my Craftworld Eldar as Warlocks.

All the DE player really has to do to some of them is file off the gems. Not all the Eldar models would work, but it is at least better than what they currently have. I just hope they don't make them just Eldar with an accessory sprue throw into the box.

Even if they did that, I'd still buy them and make Dark Eldar.

What individuality? They're darker, corrupted and perverted versions of their Craftworld kin. With either new models, or an accessory sprue to change Eldar into Dark Eldar, nothing changes that.

True, but they still look slightly different from the normal Eldar. I was just thinking that visually they would basically become the Eldar version of Chaos Space Marines.

I would be PISSED if they did that. Thats about as big a cop out as it gets. Now if they wanted to say, make an eldar/dark eldar codex thatd be fine. As long as the minis werent a "ELDAR BOX NOW WITH DARK ELDAR SPRUE!!!!!"

Fantasy models with some conversions work a lot better than eldar models in my opinion. Especially for wyches (add a splinter pistol to a wych elf, some more creative work for succubi)

The Mandrake in the main rulebook gave me nightmares...Then again, so did the Harlequins...Oh, and I agree with KingCracker, it would be an epic copout if they did that.

I have actually considered DE conversions from Eldar, just for the sake of a decent looking army. GW even included a tutorial on how to go about that project in one of their big catalogs. What stops me? That would put undeserved money into GWs pocket. They get none of my money for DE until they make DE worth buying.
Now a .pdf of the new DE codex? Yeah that's a lame cop-out, but I'd be content with it at this point.

It should be obvious based on how they are painted/converted.

Also there's no way that huge spiky open topped thing could be a Wave Serpent....right?
