Hi everyone!

Now that people have had a chance to get to grips with the game I was wondering if people would recommend buying it? I was seeing mixed reactions in the thread a few months ago.

I've heard it is fun with a steep learning curve (which is fine) and also with terrible AI (which is not).

I used to be a big fan of Chaos League so I could just track down a copy of the old expansion and play that.

Any thoughts?

Two guys in our group have it and have been playing it quite a bit. From both of them they've said it is quite simply a complete computer game translation of the V5.0 Living Rulebook.

They commented that the game does a bad job of telling you how to play the game, so sort of takes its audience for granted (it expects you to know the mechanics of BB). So if you know the mechanics, go for it, you'll pick it up pretty quickly once you learn the interface. If you don't, it might be a bit harder to get through and work it out.

I think I'll sit on the fence until I hear more about the AI. Hopefully one of my friends will buy it first!

I play it, and really enjoy it.

The turn based mode is an exact clone of the board game, and the real time mode is a game of its own.

The AI in the real time game is a push over, but in the turn based game it will give a new player a good challenge.

But thats not really an issue because no one ever plays the game solo. It's really designed as an online game, were you can join/set up leagues, or just play a pickup game when ever you want. So weak AI is not really a problem unless you have no internet connection.

No, it's Half Brother of Marneus Calgar, but your version is excellent.

YO DAKKA DAKKA!

Play it online, and download the rulebook from Specialist Games if you want the details.

Bloodbowl is awesome, and the only reason I voted 'Neutral' on the Jervis Johnson poll.

Still peeved that Bloodbowl DS wasn't officially released in Auz...

I've played a bit over the last few weeks. You don't want to play this game single player. The AI isn't just poor, it's poor in really predictable ways. You can make a weak push down the left flank, knowing you will be able to break through because the computer will never use spare players to reinforce the defenders, instead it will always move spare players into catching positions in your own end zone. Which isn't a bad idea with wood elves, but the computer will do this with dwarves.

To make up for the AI the computer cheats on the experience rolls, blitzers consistantly get strength, catchers constantly pick up agility. Other than than that it builds boring, teams, full of guard and mighty blow. The one thing I'd looked forward to in the single player was moving away from teams full of the same few skills over and over again, but instead it's got that and it's cheating.

So I'd only recommend getting this if you're keen for on-line play.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

I really want to play this, does anyone know when the XBOX version is going to come out?

There's an update out now, adding the Dark Elves as a new playable race! More info on THQ's site here, and a cool video showing them in action!

The USA

i got tired of waiting for it to be released in the states... so i got a UK PSP version off E-bay

since i love the board game, the video game is a perfect fit for me... allready got a chaos team up to allmost 2mill.

really, the only thing that i find annoying is that i cant do a certin blitz that i like to do... i cant throw a block at someone, and THEN move. it is a very effictive way to get whatever unfortunate git is on my frontline into scoring position... then again, with my chaos team. by the end of the 1st half you only got half your team in playable condition any way

now i am just waiting for it to come out for x-box... but that wait aint so bad since i got COD.

For the UK:
The game page on the THQ website lists release as the 26th Nov.
The Xbox site doesn't seem to have updated yet though - hoping that's just an oversight

Seems to be no update for the US yet - I'll see what I can turn up though.

I showed up at my local GameStop on the "release date" to find out that nobody had heard of it, and later discovered that was the EU release. Been trying not to let myself buy the PC version online since that day, as I had much rather have the xbox version (I think?). Problem is, I need to know that it's eventually going to show up!

@H.B.M.C. - "Bastardly" would have worked. I was always thinking it stood for "Hugs Bugs' Monstrous Creatures" or something like that. Maybe even "Hell Blasters Make Craters"...

No luck on finding you a release date, sorry..
THQ aren't publishing Blood Bowl in the US, and we've not heard anything about a release date outside of Europe.

I do appreciate the effort though. Knowing that it is out soon in Europe gives me hope that it won't be too much longer in the US.

You can, simply select your dude, hit the Lightning Bolt on the RHS of the screen, the Blitz icon should appear over your dude and you can then make your block and move off afterwards.

I find it very useful for when I am planning a Blitz and I accidentally double click on a square and my dude moves to there. If I hadn't hit the blitz button he'd just move and not block !
