First of all, i wasnt sure wheter to put this in painting or not but i decided on here.
Ok, im getting annoyed about moving my WHFB models during battle, its annoying as you always have to re-align them so i looked on GW website and looked on movement trays, they seemed expensive but are useful. Can anyone reccomend whether to get them or should i make my own, also if it is reccomended, which of the 3 types??

Here it depends what army you play. I myself use the cheapest version (great for 20 mm bases).
Movement trays are a must when playing larger games, since you will quickly get frustrated moveing your troops (and it is takes up lot of time).
Movement trays are also fast to make yourself, you just need some stiff card and you are good to go

Movement trays are a must.
However, you can easily build them on your own. Hell, you can building multiple movement trays with each box of plastics you get. Just cut the cardboard properly and some of the sprues to fit, and you're good to go. It's low quality and only really works provided you put plastic models on it, but it's good enough.
Alternatives include using plasticard, thin wood "slices", etc.

At first i was intimidated to making my own trays , then i used left over plasti cards ( from my failed scratch builds T-T )
and put together a movement tray . It was easy, sturdy , and 100% customizable since we decide how wide to make it !
all we need is an average thickness plasti cards ( its fine to be thin and bendy ) because:
whats important are the 3 raised sides . ( i use 3 L shaped plasti beams , not sure if thats what its called )

I use balsa wood to make trays.
Another VERY useful thing to consider when making movement trays - thin metal sheets to line the entire 'top' of the tray (ie where the models get placed) and getting magnetized bases (or just buyin a bunch of small rare earth magnets). It ensures your guys won't spill over in case something gets tipped.

Like the ones on the website I linked?
Along the side bar it says 'movement trays' and brings you to this section of their site that allows you to purchase then in the size and shape you need, along with magnets and metal basing for the movement trays.

The GW modular movement trays are well worth the price ($10 I think). I could have made my own, but my time is worth more than the $10 to $20 it cost to get these trays. Either way when based and painted you can't really tell the difference between a good DIY tray or one bought from GW or any other company.

Buisness card magnets. They will hold most minatures in place agaisnt 22ga. steel... even when turned upside down.

@Vulcan, yeah that works too, but really only for plastics.
Anything metal will need rare earth magnets.

Movement trays are really necessary to play the game with reasonable speed and precision. I would honestly avoid playing a game with someone who didn't use them, and offer to lend them whenever possible (or help improvise some) if someone is missing them.
The magnetized tray route is awesome, and allows for some amazing storage options. I have multiple friends who do this, and are able to carry their armies around in cases all set up on their trays. Talk about quick set-up!

Nope. I've tested it with metal infantry, and metal riders on plastic hoses. Even the Green Knight (all metal) holds on up to about 90 degrees (that is, the base being vertical rather than horizontal).
Heck, the plastic dragons will hold upside down! So did the all-metal Grail Reliquae. (Apparently cavalry is too top heavy on such a narrow base and tilts away from the metal before you get fully inverted. The broader base of the Reliquae holds it in place through the inversion.)
