Hello Dakka!

Just curious,is AoBR a good set to get?
I'm tempted to get it for the rulebook and the armies but is it worth the money?
Is it the full rulebook?

The rulebook in Black Reach contains the full Rules section of the normal rulebook, but is missing the fluff, modelling and expanded mission/gaming ideas sections.

So it's enough to play the game with.

As to whether it's worth the money... that's really up to you. It's packed with models... but that's only any good if they're models you want. If so, then yes, it's a great set.

Tyranid player? Yep buy AOBR set for the rules and template ,

You can easily trade off the Marine + Orks
with some other players for $ or Nid items with worth favorable to you.

AoBR is very good value, if you (and/or your friendly Marine Player) want the rules (Full rules, even with the same page numbers as the Big Rule Book), templates, and a load of Ork/Marine models.

To get value if you don't want the models (Ork/'nid conversions? ), then you have to sell/trade them off.

You can often sell the orks to one player, the marines to another player, leaving you with a cheap/free set of rules/templates etc.

I'm sure someone will pop in here and recommend a good online supplier where you can get a discount over GW prices.

I like the idea of an ork/nid conversion, but I think I might try to persuede my sister to play with me.
I want to see what its like to paint marines.

Well you can put your money together with a friend and split the stuff. My cousin and I both put £20 in and I got the Marines and he got the Orks. If you can't do that then just buy the whole thing and sell one of the armies.

I love the mini rule books they come out with. When ever I have one of those questions about a vague rule or forgot something it is helpful to be able to not have to flip through all the fluff or the extra stuff just for the one rule.

Meh.

For a tyranid player, I really don't see a reason for buying the AOBR set. For the same price, you can get the full rulebook, templates, and scatter dice.

What are you going to do with a bunch of Orcs or Space Marines except sell them on Ebay?

That was the 4th edition Battle for Macragge set. It's out of print, and the rulebook is for 4th edition, while we're in 5th edition now.

+1 to this. If all you want is the mini rulebook and/or templates and/or scatter dice, you can get all of this for ~$20 US on ebay.

I bought one, and I'm prolly gonna buy another one. Worth the money if you know either player. I play marines, and I sold the Orks to my friend for $20, which is more than value.
