Greetings!

I am getting back into WHFB and 40k after a decade or so hiatus. The rules have not changed so much as to become alien, but some new races, etc. have been added, and some armies have been revamped (pardon the pun, especially since I am building a Vampire Counts army for WHFB). I am leaning toward Greenskins again for 40k (cuz dem iz da boys wot iz da most fun fer stompin oomies ). My question is this: with only a couple of gaming sessions under my belt with the new edition, which armies are the 'toughest' especially with the new chaos units in WHFB, which it seems what everybody is playing. Also, the undead used to have missile weapons (I remember the archers and the screaming skull catapults): are there any plans to add any missile weapons to the Vampire Counts army?
At any rate, I am glad to be back in the game.

Regards,

Jamie

Good army choices on both counts in terms of game winning. Just steer clear of Daemons!

Welcome to Dakka Dakka.
Unfortunately the best always seems to be the newest, but I think that's kind of dumb.
The most expected type of army at the moment though is Anti-mech or mech. That's because of the changes to the vehicle damage table. This doesn't mean that they are the best, just that they're the most popular at the moment.

I'm not sure about the best, but I'v heard that Imperial Guard and Space Wolves are supposed to be the strongest at the moment, but I would suggest not bandwagoning with what seems to be the strongest, but what seems to be the best to you. This is because it seems to change every codex release.

I've always won with my guard. And my daemons in whfb. Same can't be said about my chaos marines, but maybe that's because while i've only played 4 Guard Games and about 8 Daemon games, I've played 200+ Chaos Marine games!

"And what are the achievements of your fragile Imperium? It is a corpse rotting slowly from within while maggots writhe in its belly. It was built with the toil of heroes and giants, and now it is inhabited by frightened weaklings to whom the glories of those times are half-forgotten legends."

Personally, I'd go with what looks the most fun! (This is coming from someone who rarely ever games, mind you.) Even though I collect ye ol' Sphess Merens, it irritates me to see just how many people collect them. (Take that as a pinch of salt, though. Half of 'em armies are bleeding amazing!) You'll gain allot more respect from fellow hobbyists by choosing those armies that really aren't the best of the best of the best. I'm not too sure if that applies with WHFB, TBH. But, whatever you do, just hang on if you're considering the Dark Eldar. Hell, the poor blighters haven't had much happening to 'em since you've been gone! (Anyhow, the Orks always look like a good laugh to me.)
