I've decided to see what i could build from my 10yr old bitz box that i found not so long ago (the reason for me to get back into painting and modeling).

I had Catachan sprues and some Space Marine bits and bobs so i thought i would go about making a Scout Sergeant.

This is just a mock up of what he may look like. I really like the pose. I tried doing the top half of the legs with Catachan ones and bottom half with Space Marine ones but its quite tricky.

I don't want to rule out the Catachan legs so Ill have a few more attempts. It just involves lots of cutting and thinking what i could GS to make it look right. Not to mention the scaling issues.

I've yet to make a backpack, the neck guard thing, file off old markings on the power armor, communications etc so don't worry about that.

Anyway.

Should i cut/file down the top half of the legs and try to green stuff some cloth material?

The sword arm should be tilted down a bit more but I'm sure you get the idea.

So what do you guys think?

Lol, He looks great like this but scouts have less armour so I'm kinda stumped. I might have a go and putting some creases in.

Ill have to practice first though :S

My vote is for IG legs for the base and add straps, pouches and equipment, instead of working backwards (as it were) from SM legs. Have you got any scouts you could put him next to for scale and continuity purposes?

It's a good model. It's like he's halfway through initiation into the Chapter and he's only recieved half his armour.

The legs are thin enough that you can try sculpting some creases to represent fabric but that may draw undue attention to the cod (crotch) piece of the armour unless you sculpt over that, too. If so, file it down a bit before you do so it doesn't look like his stuffed his shorts to impress the Sisters of Battle !!

You might consider leaving the leg armor as is but adding a loin cloth draped from the belt to obscure it slightly. That would be easy to sculpt and there are several plastic bits like that in the Marine kits, too.

It looks good, though I think he looks more like an inquisitor type person than space marine scout.
