Right... so that is a rather stupid statement. And I am betting most everyone would at least turn an odd eye at it.

NO, I am not saying I wish death upon obama... I gave it that title on propos to see how people reacted, and how they react to this.

http://gatewaypundit.firstthings.com/2009/10/gore-vidal-admits-he-wanted-to-murder-bush-joy-behar-agrees-video/

I like that parts where he calls obama to smart for a stupid country like America... and of course when the host just laughs about his statement directed at the former president and says "well its to late anyways".

You all know darn well if someone said that about obama there would be a gakstorm in the media... but how much coverage do you think that will get aside from fox news, and those on talk radio???

While obama is creating all these czars why not create a double standard czar… but I suppose that would be counter productive for the left winger.

There would also be a gakstorm about it being directed at Mother Teresa, Champion the wonder horse or The Fonze... and none of them have launched illegal war without the sanction of the United Nations, based on a greed for oil, nor taken his country 10 trillion into debt with it's major rivals on the world stage nor fully enabled, via ineptitude and turning a blind eye, a full scale global economic crisis.

So your arguement is that as long as the media disagrees with the actions of the individual its ok to have a double standard of reporting?

My opinion: No, it is not right for the media to have a double standard of reporting... But the truth is that they do it anyway.

I swear, the media in the US is out of control. I, gasp, actually take TMZ as a more honest source of information. I hear things like the deaths of Heath Leadger and MJ from TMZ first. Why is that? They are fast to respond with breaking celebrity new, they report the facts (no matter how ugly and dirty), if there are no facts, they say it is rumored, and they don't play favorites.

Now, that being said, I hate TMZ (unscrupulous bastards!), but like I said, they have a better track record in my eyes than the mainstream news networks...

What connection does Gore VIdal have to the Obama admininstration ?

.. Why should it get any coverage ? Does anyone actually think he would or even could murder Bush or any President ? Maybe that's why it won't get much coverage, as it's not really a story.

I think "Increasingly desperate and intellectually bankrupt right find something to fling at Obama that is nothing to do with him" would be a more accurate thread title. I especially liked the needless mention of the Czars, as if he's the only President to ever have them. Bravo.

Also : Please don't use profanity on the forum, or words that "cunningly" slip through the filter.

Threatening a US President is a felony. He should be prosecuted for such. If they don't have enough to convict him they should drag him through the courts, forcing him to spend hundreds of thousands of $ to defend himself.

Polonius needs a job. He could be the defense counsel. Lets all help Polonius and demand this occur. Lets all support our brother Dakkaite. Arrest Vidal.

Ex president.

It's always a storminateacup if someone talks about killing a current president, those people are taken into custody or watched very carefully. It's always old news when someone talks about having wanted to do it to a previous president. Wacky nutjobs talked about wanting to kill clinton, now they talk about having wanted to kill bush. Give it a few years and you'll hear the same about obama (Though you can find plenty of that now anyway, just look at the threads title). You don't police thought once the threat is long over. Welcome to America, the disclosure of a joke in poor taste isn't the stupidest thing you're going to hear today.

1. I'd agree with Shuma here (shudder). This is a common thing. Having said that for a major figure to say such nonsense is surprising. For there to be no issue that the interviewer laughed along with him is striking. But yea, only Fox is one sided.
2. But thats not off from Vidal. This is the weed who thought the skinny model (see earlier thread) was too fat and attacked the German magazine was pushing for slightly more normal models. While I would never support violence, I feel locking him in a room without thirty soccer moms and discussing his statments is in order. Think of it as Survivor Compton, Vidal style. If he makes it out, he wins.

Polonius, it's just that moderates and most others have better things to do with our day rather than fight aganst a party the voters have spanked the past few elections.

I think moderate republicans whom I disagree with but can respect, have been dragged down by conservative nuts who flood other sites and spout talking points.

People say stupid things all the time. but until there is INTENT to carry out such acts then....

I'd like to meet the man who did this so I can punch him in the Richard. You can't block a Richard punch you know.

I believe it is illegal to threaten the life of the President.

Actually it's illegal to threaten anyone's life, but Presidents are extra-special. The FBI will open a file on you. They probably already have one on Gore Vidal anyway.

Do former presidents get the same level of protection? They get bodyguards.

For as long as any former president is alive they are awarded the same protections as the current acting president so threatening an ex-president is the same threat level as would be for Obama.

Then it's equally wrong to ignore Gore Vidal or someone who might threaten Obama.

Of course it is up the FBI or maybe Secret Service to carry the case forwards.

I met Gore Vidal once, in the early 80s.

Very illegal, its a Federal offense even if the comment is in jest. Even if you only wish him ill, and not attempt to enact on it.

However that is in the US. You and I are in the UK, we can wish ill of the US President anytime we want. Between the Bush and Obama there is a lot to wish about.
