Hey guys. i'm back.

I've recently developed an intrest in rackhams Sci-fi game AT-43. I've got a few questions, and I hope someone can help me out here? Thank you in advance.

  • What would you reccomend starting with? Is there a Starter set, and which army is most beginner freindly? (I like the look of the Therians and the Cogs. The cogs remind me a bit too much of the Tau though. )

  • Could you respray the models to repaint them?

  • What is the most inherintly "evil" army? I can't help it, I love to be the bad guy .

Army Boxes are your best bet, especially if you like the Cogs. $55 from some stores, $61 shipped for a 2000 point ready-to-field army. I can't speak to how competitive that army is but it's legal and ready for use the moment you open it. There's also a Red Blok Army Box and the Oni Army Box should be coming out soon if you like techno-zombies.

Other than that, some Karmans are still on sale from the firesales earlier this year, and a little bit of the Therian line, little bit of the Red Blok like, other than that you're paying normal prices and I always recommend starting as cheap as possible with a new game until you find out if you like it or not.

There's really no "starter set" other than Operation Damocles which is back up to $60 and no longer worth it IMHO unless you intend to play as UNA or Therians, and even then you're stuck with minis you won't use unless you play both.

The models take paint well so I don't see why you couldn't just re-prime them. You might not want to, however. The Cogs, for instance, really just need a good inking and some highlights and they're good to go IMHO.

The Therians are the most inherently evil army if you consider destroying all of creation so that you can reshape it to your own image evil. It's pretty much everyone else against the Therians and against each other along the way, but mostly against the Therians. Therians are the one army that everyone hates, except I guess Oni who will do business with anyone and hate no one. Unless they're being paid to hate them, anyway.

Also, Karman Army box in (I think) January. However, they did take the greatest hit in quality between regular boxes paint jobs and the AB of all the armies to so far get an Army Box. But, it will be the only way to get the Laser Gun Trikes and the new Storm Mammoth, so of course I'll get it at least.

  • AT-43 doesnt have a black hat faction, unlike 40K which has several. While the Therians are callous and uncaring they are out to build thier version of the better future. There is no lets-destroy-and-kill-everything-for-fun faction. Therians might twist your homeworlds ecology and watch the native population die, but they have a good reason which makes sense to them; they dont do it for jollies. They have 'always' had this power from the point of view of other factions, but the horrors were not unleashed because there was no reason to do so. An advanced civilisation has to make itself a target of the Therians to be a their victim, if you are not a target their fleets will sail right past your defenceless planet with no thought of victimising you. Necrons, Tyranids Chaos and Dark Eldar just don't think that way.

The only faction that is possibly evil in its own eyes is ONI, they are mercenaries through and through, out only for personal gain without any positive agenda long or short term. they also turn people into zombies and force them to fight for them, which is pretty evil when you think about it. However ONI are 'reasonable' in that they can be reasoned with, their armies are for hire after all, when they do horrible things to a factions populace it normally comes with 'if you hire us, its the other guy who gets hit'.

Oh yes, are they worse than the Wolfen? I have seen the shoddy Wolfen Army box model piccies, I have had better presented toys from Christmas crackers, and no I am not exaggerating.

Yes, they're worse than the Wolfen(who at least have eyes painted, I've had the Wolfen box since August and saw the Karmans at GenCon). Like the Wolfen, just the basic colors are applied. Unlike the Wofen, there's no facial features painted and no attempt and washing/shading like some of the Wolfen models have.

The feature-less bright silver weapons on the infantry are the largest disappointment.

Hi! We're the Therians. We're evil...well, everyone else thinks so. We think that we used to be humans from Earth who got so scientifically advanced that we mastered virtual reality and nanotechnology and upload ourselves into a huge online world sometimes and create whatever we want from raw matter other times and are virtually immortal due to not being tied to, you know, actual bodies and stuff...so what we're gonna do is conquer the whole universe, destroy every star system and turn them all into big Dyson Spheres and then re-arrange the whole universe so that there's no Big Crunch like there was a Big Bang which will destroy everything because hey, we live forever and so that would suck for us.

Hi! We're the U.N.A. We're humans that come from a planet called Ava. We discovered these pyramids all over our planet that had all these neat glyphs and things on them that taught us language and math and pretty much everything we know, and one day we broke into a pyramid on the South Pole and found some REALLY cool stuff like robots and stuff, and that led to a worldwide unification movement so that we could be all happy and use the science together. Of course, it turns out that we were actually put here by these evil Therian guys who seed the universe with humans to develop societies and technology and generally wreck ecologies the way humans tend to do which then makes it easier for the Therians to turn the star system into a Dyson Sphere. The Therians showed up on Ava to get the ball rolling destroying our planet and stuff but we kicked their asses and sent them packing, and stole all their technology, and now we're taking the fight back to the Therians and invading their factory worlds like Damocles and generally being kick-ass because, you know, we're humans and that's how we roll.

Hi! We're the Red Blok. See, when those stupid U.N.A. jerks mastered spaceflight and started colonizing worlds, they found this volcanic world which they named Hades that kind of sucked to live on but had all these minerals and stuff - so a bunch of U.N.A. corporations moved in and lived the high life in orbit off the money we made them mining everything and getting all dirty. So, one day a bunch of us Hades workers got mad and formed the idea of Collectivism and became Space Commies and took Hades back from the U.N.A.. They tried to take the planet back but we kicked their asses because, you know, we're also humans and that's how we roll, too. So when Hades defended their independence a bunch of other planets left the U.N.A. and we all became the Red Blok and the U.N.A. had to make peace with us and we even control a bunch of Ava, the human home-world. We kinda fight with the U.N.A. now, sometimes. We have better things to shoot at most of the time, though...

Hi! We're the Karmans. We're the better things the Red Blok has to shoot at most of the time. Right now, anyway, as we and they don't get along on the ice planet Elsyee which is one of our colonies. See, the Therians didn't start with seeding humans all over the place. Their first attempt was to use gorillas because gorillas are more primitive than humans, right? Wrong...not once they made us smart, anyway. We actually cared about our environment and didn't wreck the planets we colonized so that made us pretty useless for the whole "turn the universe into Dyson Spheres" plan, but being big gorillas in power armor and feeling indebted to our Therian creators we did wind up making a pretty useful army for them to use because they didn't always think too smart about wars, probably because there are so many of them and they get all wrapped up in virtual reality and stop paying attention. They used us to almost commit genocide on a race called the Krygs and then we thought twice about fighting for the Therians and decided any debt we had to them for creating us was paid and now that those humans kicked the Therians' ass on the factory world Damocles, we're beginning to fight back against the Therians, as well. Because we're giant gorillas in power armor with neat flying vehicles. And we like cigars.

Hi! We're the Cogs. That's what everyone else calls us, anyway. We're a species that started off beating the crap out of each other and trying to dominate one another to force other Cogs to spawn our children. We're males or females, you see, depending on whether we're in charge or not - and the ones in charge dominate our genetics. We call them Old Ones, now, and they run the whole show. As we got smarter and developed technology we were always focused on genetics, and formed Lines of Cogs who were each different from one another based on what their Old One in charge decided to do with altering the Cogs in his Line. We make Worker Cogs and Soldier Cogs that are just brains plugged into power armor suits and Executives who don't live long but who are really smart and really fast and do all the hard thinking work and then they die. Anyway, the Therians discovered us, beat us up, we fought back, they got the Karmans to beat US up and then we sued for peace, then we started trading technology for resources to arm the Therians' enemies all over the galaxy to soften them up while we rebuilt our strength, and now that those humans we've been trading with for about 160 years kicked the Therians' ass on Damocles we're marching off back to war. And we're tall. Really, really tall.

Hi! We're Oni. We're a greedy human corporation that uses something called O Serum, which is a virus our founder caught trying to prove what a smart medical scientist he was by treating some sick people, that can be used to create zombies. Well, kind of. Not the stupid, shambling, gonna eat your flesh zombies necessarily. Depends on whether you were dead first or not. We can also make smart zombies that use power armor or cool guns and are really disgusting to look at and don't need to, you know, eat or sleep or breathe or all that pesky stuff. We also trade for and steal technology from just about everyone so if you want to hire our soldiers, living or dead, we're got awesome guns and we're also the only guys that use wheeled tanks because we're smart enough to make them competitive. Problem is that O Serum is an intelligent virus which is getting smarter, and it's spreading throughout the U.N.A. and Red Blok because we keep, you know...turning people into zombies. With guns that, you know, kill them and turn them into zombies. Sometimes zombies with little bombs on their hands so when they reach out to bite you they blow up. Ewww. But very cost effective. We have a 25% off sale on them if you want to sick them on your enemies. We don't care who we fight, as long as you pay us for it.

YEs, except 2 minis available in resin (a grim golem overseer and a hero called Lt. Francesca Fortuna) HOWEVER as everybody says:

    A) you can play immediately and look better than most "primed" armies
    B) you can wash an retouch without any primer and then seal them
    C) you can modify, convert, prime and then paint as ANY miniature in the market

    Actually, it's 2 resins and 1 metal.

There's an LE metal alt Sgt. Tims armed with a grenade pistol.

I would, but it was only available through R's older site. It's no longer available and I can't find any pictures other in the Premier Weapons Scenario.

Notice the different weapon and different base style in the top most picture, and the front view on page 2.
