I like what the TV reporter said.
"She leaned out of her upstairs apartment window and shot him"

'My feet are so swollen. My belly's swollen. I'm so done I could just blow someone away.'

HPD: Pregnant woman fatally shoots car burglar
By MIKE GLENN

Share Print Share Del.icio.usDiggTwitterYahoo! BuzzFacebookStumbleUponA woman fatally shot a car burglary suspect Monday night in the parking lot of her northwest Houston apartment complex, police said.

The woman, who is eight months pregnant, told Houston police she shot the man about 9 p.m. after she spotted him breaking into her car parked outside the apartment in the 5900 block of Pinemont at Alabonson.

The man still had a screwdriver in his hand when the woman opened fire with a shotgun. The door lock to her car also had been popped open, officers at the scene said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene. The woman was still being questioned late Monday.

The shooting remains under investigation, Houston police said.

Uh oh Frazz. You started another thread where the Lefties are going to come in here and decry her defending her property as her life was not obviously in danger. Lets forget the fact she is pregnant.

I say good riddance. Too stupid to try to steal a car in this day and age and in this country then God has selected you to be the next contestant on "You are going to Hell, boy".

Being 8 months pregnant is a very reasonable plea for temporary insanity, if this can't be classified as self defence. My 6 months pregnant wife certainly has her moments, and would probably do the same thing if she had a shotgun and a car burglar handy.

I had to chuckle to read that story.

Still, the bible says, "An eye for and eye, and a tooth for a tooth." Not a life for a car.

Call me a lefty if you like but is there any lower limit to what it is acceptable to shoot someone for?

Depends on the state. In Mn I can shoot your ass dead if you break into my home to steal my Ipod.

The story made me laugh. Again, natural selection. Stealing a car has no benefit to the thief except to use to get your worthless rear end home or wherever you are too lazy to walk to or in a chop shop.

Going to commit grand theft auto then better pray to God the owner doesn't have a gun. Apparently he wasn't thinking the homeowner did. Boom! One less idiot on the street.

At night, its specifically permitted under statute in the state of Texas. the night part is key.

Of course their is older case law noting the time honored Spanish Law defense for women of "he needed killin." Don't be a test case!

Scrumping apples is when you climb into someone's orchard and pinch some of their apples.

You can shoot someone for stealing your car?

Thats just silly, she murdered someone...for breaking into her car. If it was her apartment then I would say she had a right to defend herself, but a car?

How could you possibly call this self defense? The guy looked at her funny, from a gunshots length away?

Very strange story, I must say.

Lord-Loss wrote:You can shoot someone for stealing your car?

It is pretty much state by state on that one. California for instance, is relatively moronic in their self defense laws, but in an entirely different direction. So if you were in your car, while someone was trying to steal it, and they had a knife, and you shot them in the face as they tried to stab you with that knife; you could definitely risk jail-time if you were unlucky enough. At the very least, there needs to be some kind of compromise; and it would still be state by state.

You should not be able to shoot someone for stealing your car, but I would be hard pressed to say that you cannot shoot someone for trying to steal your car, while your in it. There is definitely a line here, that is set on the edge of lawlessness.

You're right. the lack of gun control here is just silly. She leaned out her window. This is the problem, a lack of of gun control. She should have stabilized herself against the frame. Good catch there Lord-Loss

Again night time is the key. At night time lots more things are legal.
Thou shalt not break into my house or my neighbor's house, nor shalt thou messeth with mine chariot, lest I shall fillith thee with chilled 00 shot, and verily. And addeth thee one more commandment. Stealing mine boom box is right out, lest thou snuffith it.

It's up to a judge to determine what is excessive or not. The car was on her property so by rights in certain states she would be able to defend her property.

I'm sure she didn't shoot to kill necessarily. Depending how far away she was from the perp she might have figured it would only cause pain and discomfort (after all, shotguns lose a lot of lethality beyond 15 yards). I mean, I'm almost positive she didn't put the gun to the back of his head and decapitate him with it.

No that's not kosher. We don't have apple trees here. Try stealling a horse or cow however...

No its not actually. She won't even be arrested. If she were arrested, she would be no billed. If she were tried it would go jury I'm sure, not judge, and this is legal defense.

I guess I should calrify here. The intent was less about the shooting, more about an 8 month's pregrant woman with a shotgun. Any of us who've a pregant gal about that time knows a P woman 8 months down with a shotgun-yea someone's gonna die...

I would have chosen a .22 pistol, emptied an entire clip and let him bleed out that way.

Hope one of my meth head neighbors tries something when my MG-42 gets mounted.

No one will try anything when your MG-42 gets mounted...

Having said that, beware of locals with nagants, they may have flash backs and head your way with a T-34 or such.
