That looks good but the edges of the black panels could do with something, maybe a dark grey highlight or some paint chips/weathering. The gold is very nice, clean metallic look without being garish.

As for your cockpit dilemma, have you considered liquid mask? I will admit I have never used it but the ability to 'paint' it onto the area required might make it less fiddly than tape for awkward spaces. I have seen Humbrol and Tamiya branded versions from most model suppliers, so it shouldn't be hard to find.

I plan on picking some up before I paint my Valkyrie but unfortunately that won't be anytime soon.
