there's cheesepie's strange tower, then haloreachforever's wooden house.
Halo's house I don't class as an eyesore because of the wooden planks and waterfall, but it is rather awkwardly placed.
cheesepie's is a cobblestone tower with holes for windows and no artistic properties, right in the way of yak's beautiful house.

Wow, I leave Dakka for several months because of exams. I come back and the Minecraft thread has almost 90 pages, wow.

I've been through several worlds since I left, the last one (my favourite :[) got corrupted or something. So I started a new one and used singleplayer commands to get some of my crap back.

My new world is pretty amazing, it doesn't seem to have any of kind of 'main land' instead it's a collection of awesome islands. I've burnt all the trees off the awesomest island I could find and i'm working on building me a sandstone castle. Sandstone is alot more interesting to look at then cobblestone, smoothstone or wood. Nice material to build with.

Do you guys have a server? Wow, i'd look back through the pages to read about how that happened but i'm too lazy.

So how did that happen?

It helps that the owner and the admin of Dakka are both addicted to it.

Oh yeah.. It's great fun to be chased by a guy called Yakface.

OK so my mob grinder puts out about 500 items an hour, which isnt horrible on SMP.

Going to start keeping it in chests in the sanc so help yourself (cept the gunpowder for now, I love tnt to much lol.

Also if your interested on where the collection point is let me know, if im not there feel free to collect the goodies!

Here is the thing I learned about mob grinders tho, you really cant make a ton of them, otherwise the spawn gets all screwy.

The way they work is by building a multi tiered or huge dark area where mobs can spawn. Then you fill the surrounding area and caves with torches so mobs cant spawn there.

This forces the mobs to spawn in your grinder, so if multiple people have grinders in the same area mobs are spawning in all of them significantly cutting down on the amount each one gets.

This current one is actually a prototype, and I am planning on tearing it down (mainly cause its an eyesore) and rebuilding a much larger and better one elsewhere.

However one I get home from work I will post screenies.

Right, I recommend people build mob traps far away from civilization and mark their location.

There is actually quite a lot of math to how it all works, which I wont post..

However it basically comes down to this.

There can be 200 hostile mobs spawned per world at any given time.

Mobs will not spawn within 24 blocks of a character iirc.

Mobs will only spawn within 4 chunks of a player which is in a 144x144 block area.

Knowing this, If there are two mob grinders within 144 blocks of each other mobs will spawn in each of them, so half of them are wasted (assuming only one person is at one of the grinders).

Also if there is one person at location X and 9 chunks away there is a person at location Y both are capable of spawning mobs which contribute towards that 200 hostile mob limit. This is good to know for SMP because its not possible to get the same results from a mob grinder as it is on single player. Those 10000 item per hour mob grinders you see just arent possible on SMP. For my next project I am considering making a massive community mob grinder that empties into the sanctuary, that everyone can use.

Awesome. If you pm me the location, i'll try and grab the loot when it falls, which mean my giant hole outside my house will be easier to clear.

Gee, I hope this wasn't me. And if it is, I hope you're flooding and sealing your mine and not the one I built.

I was digging a temporary underground lair (and started mining out for building supplies) and accidentally tunneled into someone's sprawling complex. So I blocked up my intrusion and tried to avoid the area to avoid further complications.

Oh well, if I notice that my retreat has been blocked, flooded and stripped, I'll know who to report.
