Question about Angron here. Our best look at angron is in the HH book Tales of Heresy. In his talks with Kharn, he clearly has quite a bit of trouble focusing his thoughts at points.
What exactly was the surgery done to him? I know its got something to do with amplifying his aggressiveness but does it hamstring his other though processes or something?

I dont know about what issues he had with thinkin, but to me it looked like he was suffuring from a type of culture shock and really bad lost (his entire social group killed).

The Emperor himself criticized Angron for the changes he made to his recruits. Like all other gladiators on his homeworld, Angron had received special nerve-implants which tremendously heightened his aggressiveness, but also had the side effect of uncontrollable rages outside of battle.

It's pretty much a Legion-wide brain lobotomy. The way I understood it, parts of the brain were removed to put in the special nerve-implants which heighten aggression. When you're angry, all the time, you dont think straight.

IIRC it says in one of the early HH books that he removed some implants and kept some. Maybe there was damage done during the surgery?
We dont know what those other implants did.

As he was a slave maybe these implants made him work similarly to a servitor. Making him controllable.

Any thoughts?

I don't think they would want servitor esque fighters as gladiators. Not much personality there. I'm not really sure why you would need to modify the brains of gladiators at all. They're pit fighters after all, so they'll fight or they'll die.

Maybe he had an off switch orginally.

I don't think so, for if that's the case, they rebelled leaded by Angron because someone forgot to turn them off? xDDD

Hes not a light switch he made his escape during one of the events with all the other gladiators.. but the fact he planned it suggests rational thought.. Something which is not seen once he has escaped.

Ne funny if there was a an off switch to Angron The Grey Knights should take a remote control and turn him off XD. But still angron is a very powerful figure he went insane with hate he hated the emperor for making him leave his comrades to die. if Angron died the World eaters would of never existed. But still it is unknown what memory cards are left in his head hell it could be space invaders. But still its angron what you gonna do piss him off? Angron is a hero but a Daemon to Chaos forces, he has the ability to command he must just be different in just rushing towards the enemy with fury but also with tactics his not a mindless slave his a Primarch and as a Gladiator they must learn how to use Tactics so no hes not a mindless iduiot like Horus.

Uhh, you know we're talking about Angron right? The guy who's idea of tactics is to run screaming at the enemy and then hit them with his axe?

yes, it sure does. Having been on the receiving end of mass charges with my Guard Regiment, I can attest to this. There is a limit on how much Pie you can throw down range. And the depiction of Kharn in the HH story was very interesting.

Actually, you are quite off. Angron was always known as being a being of pure rage and anger, however, he was also one of the most martially gifted mortals in the galaxy. No-one could best Angron in CC. Do not dismiss his seemingly brutal fury as the same "swing-until-you-hit-something" tactics of the Orks .

As for the topic, Angron's implants or "The Butcher's Nails" feed the aggression and testosterone centers of his brain with the equivalent of adrenaline, causing him to have a bloody bad temper. He was not a servitor. Seriously, do you really think you could enslave a being who slaughtered seven company captains (in full Astartes armor) with his bear hands? Angron was all about martial pride. He believed the only honorable way to live was as a warrior. The butcher's nails were a right of passage; tools to be used to further his martial prowess. This is why all of his legion had these implants done; he wanted his legion to have the same sense of martial pride that he did. However, the implants had the unfortunate side-affect of making the World Eaters semi-psychotic. The Emperor actually ordered Angron to cease "lobotomizing" his troops (like he would )
When the Heresy broke out, Angron was the first to join because of bad blood based around being (essentially) kidnapped by the Emperor, as well as the Emperor trying to essentially trying to nerf his legion (and reduce their martial pride; something Angron wasn't going to take sitting down.)

But in summary, think of Angron as Leonidas on his period...all the time

Inquisitor and its Chrono-gladiators disagree.

Chrono-Gladiator - Fitted with numerous bionic weapons and attachments, the Chrono-gladiators have a pre-set self-destruct deadline, which is only extended when they are in battle, so they thirst for battle as they thirst for life itself.

And actually he was fairly intelligent as were all the World eater's it is just that is not what they were "known for" There was an article in a white dwarf that tells the tale of his banishment. In it he has quite a lot to say to the Grey Knight that does him in9 hope I didn't ruin it)- I can't remeber the number- but I remember the cover cause I have readit a trillion times-It is my favorite story- it is the cover that is A Lord of the rings(beating a dead horse to try and sell a horrible licence-haha)I can't remember the character's name but it is a close up of him in a helmet- the actor from-Cronicles of Riddick- Doom- The New Star Trek- I forget- But in it is the near complete retelling of the first war for Armaggedon and it is badass...they summarize it in a ton of other books but none are as good as this one...

So your arguement is, that a photon torpedo can destroy things many times its size, so it could destroy the Death Star.......?

Haha- no way!

Hopefully only slightly off topic, but does anyone remember the specifics about his ritual scarring? I thought it started on his back, but someone else thought it was from his wrist. I'm working on a model for him and I'd like to green stuff that on if I can.

Thanks!

"A ridge of scar tissue began at the base of Angron’s spine. It travelled up his backbone, then veered to the left and around his body, riding over his hip and curving around to his front. Angron began to turn in place underneath the light and Khârn saw how the scar seemed to expand and thin again, ploughing and gouging the skin, in some places vanishing entirely where the primarch’s healing powers had overcome it. The scar looped around and around Angron’s body, spiralling up over his belly, around his ribs, towards his chest. A little past the right of his sternum, it abruptly stopped."

Excellent. Thanks so much. My copy of 'Tales' is put away in storage for the next few months, and I don't think my model will wait that long. Thanks again.
