Subject: Thirteen warriors - A themed Space Wolf list 1850
Epic.
Roll with it and don't forget the camera for bat rep.
This is a little story about four people named Everybody, Somebody, Anybody, and Nobody.
There was an important job to be done and Everybody was sure that Somebody would do it.
Anybody could have done it, but Nobody did it.
Somebody got angry about that because it was Everybody's job.
Everybody thought that Anybody could do it, but Nobody realized that Everybody wouldn't do it.
It ended up that Everybody blamed Somebody when Nobody did what Anybody could have done.

I actually did this way back in 3rd edition, but made squad leaders, characters and vehicles the 13 warriors from the movie.
Beowolf was my Wolf Lord
Egtho (The Archer) was my LasC Annihil
etc.
Oh and my Thirteenth warrior was me. (My name is very close to the nick name from the movie/book, Ibn, that they gave the arab.)
Very fluffy and cool.

Love to see them Vs Orks or 'nids for the EPICNESS
Dashofpepper wrote:My wife made a pink tide (orks) of Orkettes. She's working on little blond hair and braids and boobs to go on them.
What the?! It sounds like a waaagh of Barbie toys exposed to the microwave! LOL!!! I would really like to see photos of both armies.
Also littlenibbler Orks aren't about armour saves.
Orks are about having too many models on the table, and wasting the other guy's time with your movement phase.
Orks are about having the toughest units on the table.
Orks are about not caring about how many bodies are left in a long winding trail until the squad is down to less than a third its starting strength.
Orks are about rolling more dice then you can count without the aid of a calculator or a pen and paper.
Orks are about having totally fething insane characters tearing gak down like Doc Grotsnik, Ghazghkull or Snikrot.
Orks are about being too fething awesome to die...
That's 1800 points. Slap some upgrades on the scouts to make 1850. You could take vulkan or pedro, both of whom enhance the terminators' abilities, but I would rather have the eternal warrior characters. I think the above army would take your 13 guys, even if the characters aren't nearly as extreme. Obviously the SM player could redress the balance by heavily targetting Njal, Ragnar and the Wolf Lord. None of these guys have EW, so they'd go down fairly quickly.
There is absolutely no point to this observation, since you're specifically making a thirteen warrior army. I just thought you should know that if someone had made a film about 32 warriors and 10 not-quite-as-tough guys who followed them around, you'd be in better luck competitively.
Also, I'm bored.

Drop a Termie for another six scouts and it could be loosely based on "The 47 Ronin".... albeit with 16 of them less badass then most adaptations of that story...

The movie is "The 13th Warrior" starring Antonio Banderas........and if you have not seen this movie, drop what you're doing and go rent/buy it RIGHT NOW!!!!!!!
It's based on the book "Eaters of the Dead" by Michael Crichton.

I don't remember melta bombs in that movie. What do they represent? Also although it is based off of "eaters of the dead" that book is based off of the first book writen in English, yep you guessed it, Beowolf. Beowolf is the Norse rendition of the book, and eaters of the dead is the arabic rendition.

I read that book in an airport once. It's the author's bullsh*t 'reimagining' of the Beowulf premise (settlement plagued by bestial attackers by night; foreign hardasses come forth to save the day). It's a terrible book that became a good action movie. It has bugger all to do with Beowulf.

Great concept for a fun List with minimal Characters. I Love it! The only thing I would like to see, is maybe drop 2 of the 5 WG unit and make them as Lone Wolfs. Extra staying power! or if possible, since it is very character based. Get Arjac in there!

I guess I could go into the relations myself but I think that it would be easier to just give you a link, although the essay itself is not proof, it expresses ideas that are all based to proof. http://www.essaydepot.com/essayme/2027/index.php Or read the second paragraph of wikipedia "The novel upon which the film is based is itself loosely inspired by Richard Frye's translation of ibn Fadlan's non-fictional account of his travels up the river Volga in the tenth century and the Old English heroic epic poem, Beowulf." Please do some research, reading the book in an airport is hardly enough to disprove my claim.

Thanks mate, but I didn't mean that I've read the book, and hence I know it's not Beowulf. I mean I've read Beowulf (in old english) and Ibn Fadlan's account (in translation) and Michael Crichton's book (in paperback). I know that the book was written to incorporate/interpret a lot of those sources, but I've come to the conclusion that the connection is a load of bullsh*t.
I'm not having a go at you personally, but I think the logic behind this is very tenuous. All societies have legends about things that go bump in the night. Personally I think the Grendel figure has a lot to do with the remnants of tribes that used to live in Denmark (the Vendel culture) which would fit the standard myth-creation pattern for monsters plaguing primitive tribal societies.
The essay that link leads to was written by a highschool student, and the way it's written doesn't exactly fill me with confidence.
Again, I'm not trying to insult you. But I think the connection between the two early-medieval sources and the pulp novel are the sort of thing the author goes on about to give his work a bit of gravitas. It's a book about norsemen bashing things up. Relation to old english poetry and muslim travel writing: not much.

Piper - Arjac is in there, second group of wolf guard. And there are 4 characters, the most allowed so its really character heavy, but appropriate nonetheless
westin - 13 is crazy but I got it down to 10 models in a completely legal but stupid way
Still working on getting some pics taken, will update asap

If only there was a way to work Lucas the Trickster in.....
Great idea man, looking forward to seeing how it turns out.
The path of the righteous man is beset on all sides by the iniquities of the selfish and the tyranny of evil men. Blessed is he who, in the name of charity and good will, shepherds the weak through the valley of darkness, for he is truly his brother's keeper and the finder of lost children. And I will strike down upon thee with great vengeance and furious anger those who would attempt to poison and destroy My brothers. And you will know My name is the Lord when I lay My vengeance upon thee.
