Dunno but I hate GWs showcase salamanders in bright green and watery yellow, its like the old ultras, all alarm red and bright blue.
They remade the ultras to dark blue and bronze with a more sinister and gothic feel to it.
So did I with my salamanders.
Here are the first squads in my 1: st company project, 30 shooty terminator firedrakes placed in squads (not all upgrades are legal but I have them just to be able to swap weapons etc.
I will probably mag the arms too so I can swap the unused minis for stormbolter terminators. The goal is to make the entire 120-or-so nicely painted salamanders 1: st company.
I also dont use the traditional colour scheme but made up my own to make them look more dark and gothic but still as salamanders.
On the table the squads are separated by their squad-unique shoulder pad iconography.
i might take close(r) up pics if needed but right now I´m to lazy.
Took me a "while" to do them. Hope you like them

Those are very bright. The colors are sharp though, and the painting is very well done.
Although, do they seem a little too bright? Perhaps the highlighting could be slightly less?
They look great, but I am not sure how they are gothic (dark?).

Well, naturally they cant be darker since that would make them into some dark angels sub chapter
The point is they are far darker and gothic looking then GWs salamanders minis.
At least that was the point when I started them, if I succeeded is up to you to decide though

Those are abso-freaking-lutely gorgeous. The blending is smooth enough and the highlights bright enough that it almost seems like the edges of their armor are lined with neon piping. While that obviously isn't your intention, the effect IS very striking and I, for one (not really, actually, as a bunch of people will, I think) dig it. If you can't darken the whole thing for risk of chapter confusion, just widen the light/dark contrast. Brilliant solution!

Lovely paint job.
Whilst they are quite bright, the way you've blended the tones from dark to light makes them look sinister. As in 'just stepped out of the shadows to melt your face' sinister

Forget all negative remarks. These are the best salamanders I have ever seen. You may not have achieved the gothic look the dark angel way, but now the look like battle-worn paint on metal over muscle, and not cheap green plastic. The bases are a great addition they are as distrating as your models.
BTW, the edges could be neon bright as they're more susceptible to scraping on stuff and looking relatively clean. A great addition would be soot-that'd fit with the flowing lava-bases theme and contribute to a more realistic and gritty feel... It'd be like the dark paint you did for the centres of the armor, but more resembling specks of dark paint made by a toothbrush, if you get what I'm trying to suggest

Thanks Butler
It takes about 15 hours to finish one mini with base.
Congrats on not giving them awful "drow" skin.
True, its wonderful fluff but I have so far never seen that skin colour look anyway near good on an actual mini.
Those are gorgeous!
Unfortunately, I think the bases are a distraction from wonderful paint job.
The funny thing is that I kinda think those bases are pretty boring.
You should see the alternative lava bases I made for all my HQs and assault terminators. I´ll post them up soon.
I´m also in the process of sculpting up sets of those bases to cast up at home.
When done I can always give away a few or trade them.

Thanks Turbo10k.
I thought about sooting them but couldnt made myself do it. I just cant grit down the paintjob that took me so many hours to finish. Lets just say its raining and therefore the marines are "clean"
About the bright neon highlites, well I exaggerate the highlites to make them look good from a distance (tabletop) but the main reason is that with strong highlites comes a sense of scale, things look big when shaded with a strong contrast. It gives marine minis the feel of actually being big.

I agree they are the best Salamanders Ive seen. And mad props on the skin tone. PErsonally Ive always thought of them as having African colored skin, maybe a little lighter, but the BLACK SKIN just drives me nuts. So seriously amazingly nice work. These should be on the DAKKA gallery for sure

Great job !!!
I've never been a fan of brightly colored paint jobs but you've done a fantastic job with the colors while still deviating enough from the "old school" Salamanders look.
Excellent painting and thanks for sharing !!!
