Hi Guys

I'm just wondering if anyone here would ever consider creating (purchasing) a complete Forge World army. Take for example the obvious, like the Death Korps or the Elysians, or even the new Chaos stuff....considering the costs, is this something that Forge World really expects people to do? Are do you think its more their aim that people would simply supplement standard armies with units from Forge World?

Given the costs, and the detail, I wonder if people would be put off buying a full Forge World army in the fear that they would ruin the miniatures with their painting skills.....

So what do you think?

People have certainly made large DKOK armies, and very nice they look too.

I've been considering doing a World Eaters army using Forgeworld products,the only thing holding me back is my dislike of the current CSM codex.
If a Codex:Chaos Legions ever gets done,I'll most likely build them.
I've also considering re-doing some of my Death Guard troops and terminators with the Forgeworld kits,which I may do next year.

If it was cheaper or i hat plenty of cash i would but it's the price that puts me, a certainly most others, off.

If i liked any of the armies then by all means i would buy them, they are just not my thing.
But yes, people do buy full FW armies on a regular basis.

I've considered using the DKOK quartermaster kit as an inquisitor, or Hector Rex, but never a full army.

Yeah, I really like the Elysians...ok, for me, they could still be a little more Sci Fi, (Somthing like Mass Effect!) but for GW/FW, with the whole Gothic Darkness thang, its the closest thing I'm gonna get for IG!

But like Fafnir has pointed out, the cost of building a complete IG army with only Elysians is gonna mean me doing ALOT of explaining to the wife!!!!

This has not been updated, I have way more to this date-

I've sold all my armies to consolidate into this one.

I also deal hunted and got most of my DKOK for 30% off MSRP.

However, I still have spent nearly a grand.

This is culmative throughout a while,


working on my army, just never posted it up yet haha.

Very interesting investment! You're a brave man to take on the job of doing DKoK, not to mention it seems to be FW flagship army, in so much as, they keep making more stuff for it

I think with Elysians, the temptations are well under control as FW seems to have abandoned the line for over things,

I'm digging some FW CSM right now too - but i must not - i must finish my army.

I just went all out FW (Even though i'm just 19)

I've been playing since i was 11, and collected tons of armies,

but got a decent paying job, and sold all my collection into a consolidated WOW dkok force ;P

I'm loving it - but sometimes i ask myself WTF.,


The BIGGEST bonus about FW armies is - they dont really lessen in value ;P

I can always resell this army (as long as i dont screw the paint job up).

Don't forget the winged tyranid swarms!
I myself will be waiting until January when they are released in plastic. Fingers crossed!
If by some bizarre twist of fate they are not released in plastic in february I will be buying a smallish (1-2k)winged swarm from FW.

Rumor has it that Forge World (the Fantasy off-shoot division?) will be putting out a Chaos Dwarf army, soonish.

If that's the case, I think I might jump in there!

Well, to be fair, I'm kinda splitting my toy budget between Infinity, and the Imperial Guard.....but I'm only going to get enough standard guard to to cater for around 1500pts, then I'm really toying with the Idea of Elysians.....I just pray to god no other Sci Fi system comes out in the near future....or I'm going to have a personal credit crunch!

Edit# General Question to those who are thinking (or in the process of creating) a FW army, how many points would you be thinking of taking your army up to?

They sure do look nice though. GMMStudios stuff is easily some of the best painted minis I've seen. Nice stuff!

I built a full DKoK army. Expensive, but FW does expect some folks will do it. They do, however, expect you to pay for it. It's certainly possible to build it via Ebay.

Its more expensive via ebay

I'd rather get shot in the face with a spoon-gun than buy something off of ebay.
But it's because I've had almost nothing but horrible luck with the sellers or Paypal being retards.
Doesn't stop me from looking though and I've rarely seen "deals" on FW stuff there.

ebay is not a place to get deals.

Forum trade hunting = win.

butt thats just me, because i've had 40k armies too long.

Well , here is what i find hard to understand.

- Yes there is a price difference between GW kits and FW kits.
however ,
- Most of us accepts and find it *normal or even *justified to pay price ( supposedly worthy ) to the GW product.

Yet , when it comes to FW ( clearly price is *worth the quality compared to normal GW products ), now everything that we accepted for our toy soldiers all fly out the window?

DKOK and Elysians get a lot of very deserved attention but FW's Cadian stuff is worth taking a look too especially if budget is a concern which is the camp I'm in. However I see myself saving up to add more FW additions and FW offers a relative bargain for DKOK in that huge Gorgon infantry set. It'll require touching up and greenstuffing but might be worth looking at if you want to get FW for 'cheap'.

The Gorgon "At Ease" infantry require you to saw each one apart from another, and then greenstuff a whole new body on that side.

But yeah. I'm actually saving cash up for an Elysian army with all the trimmings come IA8. Love me some resin.

Some of Us do in fact have a generous living. I personally have a FULL DkoK army now and i am indeed quite proud of it. It is true Forgeworld does cater to a small market, but that market is large enough to in fact keep forgeworld operational.

Slightly off topic, but what do you know about IA8?

What I know is that it will be Orks and Elysians.

I've got a full FW army, its traitor guard though so only £1 extra for each guardsman (i only bought the torsos, didn't bother with the arms. The CCS was a bit pricey but well worth it and the advisors are good value imo.) I think if you want the FW quality and looks, but don't have the money to go all the way () the upgrade packs are awesome. Will definitely be getting a small CSM force using the Khorne and Nurgle torsos and the FW SCs. As for how many pts it is, atm i've got about 3000 pts of guard, want 2000 pts of CSM and may get the FW greater daemons and DPs to add to my 1500 pts of daemons.

Cash is a problem as i'm only 17 with no job but i think if you use the upgrades i can manage quite comfortably.

I did once start a DKoK army but was only 15 so promptly gave up and managed to sell it for more than i paid @ FW!!! lol

Renegade Guard would be cool...too bad they don't have a codex. And I'm broke.
