Today I blogged about my progress as a painter with a comparison shot of an old
Cygnar Long Gunner I painted three years with a Long Gunner I finished last month.

Anyway, post here or on your own blog about this. How has your paint process changed
over time?

Wow, that´s quite a difference man! I wish I had more of my old models here, but most of them are packed away in a different country....

I could do some comparison shots of Marines, Imperial Fists from now, and from seven years ago. But mostly, the difference is in the basing, and in small things like the eyes...

my technique has changed dramatically over the past few year when i was 10 i basically said "i want it purple and gold!" and painted 1 half purple and 1 half gold. but now i am at the age of 13 my modelling and painting as improved dramaticall and i now use more than 2 colors! i have just learned the ways of using washes though and i am quite pleased with the difference that it makes.

i can't think of a good one............

Xanthos: Would still be neat to put them side by side.

Fiestamonkey: I wish I had started the hobby at 10. Then I wouldn't be
figuring things out as I am at 31!

thing is though if you start it when youre ten you have to keep it a secret for 8 years or else be picked on by peers but i carry on regardless! although it is fun to show minis to friends and turn them over to the "dark side" as in get them into the hobby.

Some people are lucky and their peers partake as well.

Not exactly the same model, but definitely a comparison of skill, IMHO. This is me about a year ago:

And this is me two months ago:

Same army, same basic color scheme (turquoise and gray), advances in photography skill notwithstanding, I think there's a huge difference in detail and blending. I started painting 20 years ago and learned a lot of basic tricks at that time from my art teacher in junior high, but it wasn't until I really took the time to think through a model's paint scheme that I was able to apply what I had learned.

What harm can it do to find out? It's a question that left bruises down the centuries, even more than "It can't hurt if I only take one" and "It's all right if you only do it standing up." Terry Pratchett, Making Money

"Can a magician kill a man by magic?" Lord Wellington asked Strange. Strange frowned. He seemed to dislike the question. "I suppose a magician might," he admitted, "but a gentleman never could." Susanna Clarke Jonathan Strange & Mr. Norrell

Sweet comparison.

Things can change a ton in a year if you apply it.

Actually I find it's quite the opposite. Warhammer is perfectly acceptable when you're 13, far less-so when you're over twenty. The older you get, the less acceptable it is

The first pic is my OG army when I was getting back into the hobby after a 14 year absence. I find that I vary my skill level easily now depending on what I want to accomplish...display or table top army.

From 2000-2001, drybrush = fast.

But I was also doing stuff like this in 02

Character model 06

Trying something different at the end of 08. All washes on mithril silver.

Did these up earlier in the year.

jgemrich: You got subtle!

WG: Heh, you work so fast I'm surprised you're not breaking out entire
armies for comparison.
