We've still got a month and a half to go, but it's not too early, IMO. What's the absolute worst movie you've seen that was released this year?

For me it would be 2012. It was hardly the fearmongering fest that I was expecting, but it was cliched and full of utter nonsense. The only redeeming thing was watching cities get owned by unexplained earthquakes and gak like that.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

I haven't seen it, but I saw the a trailer for it, and I'll vote for it too.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". Da funny fing is, arf of 'em believe it and da over arf don't, so 'e 'as to hit 'em all anyway or run fer it.

It was Transformers 2. Battlefield earth was on TV the other week and I watched it, even so the worst film of the year is still Transformers 2.

For me it's Paranormal Activity. It wasn't actually that bad, I just expected so much more.

Watch the original version. I think Steven Spielberg stuck his in the pudding.
That being said, I really enjoyed it. It was tenso!

Spoiler:
The original cut of the film, which was sent to potential distributors and has since been circulating on the internet, was somewhat different from the version currently being shown in theaters. While the original was longer, at 97 minutes, several scenes present in the theatrical version were absent, such as Katie discovering her keys on floor and Micah's picture being slashed. The original cut also included an extended scene involving footage of a possessed girl (whose story was read by Micah on the internet) chewing off her own arm.

This version's ending did not involve Micah's body being thrown at the camera, but instead featured Katie returning to the bedroom, after the struggle heard downstairs, wielding a knife with blood on her tank top. She then sits next to the bed and rocks back and forth in a catatonic state throughout the remainder of the following day. Her friend Amber calls the house, and later arrives, discovering Micah's body downstairs. When police officers arrive, Katie comes out of her catatonic state and approaches them. The officers instruct her to drop the knife, but shoot her after being startled by a door suddenly slamming behind them. The movie ends with audio of the police discovering the camera as the credits roll.

Back on topic, I would say Bruno gets my vote for worst movie this year. I was a huge fan of Borat, but I think the gratuitous sex scenes and the focus group testing scenes in Bruno were way to over the top and just plain offensive. Borat gave us a view of the US through the eyes of a foreigner, Bruno gave us , , and a diminutive Asian man getting in the while riding a spinning bike... I could watch it. I turned it off after the focus group scene.

Worst. Movie. Ever.

Transformers 2 was an unholy blemish on the movie going public's viewing habits this year....

Am I really the only one that thought Star Trek was that bad?

Admittedly, I have not seen Transformers 2 as I didn't like the first one.

Inglorious Basterds.

I liked Transformers 2 and Star Trek.

OTOH, NOTHING Tarantino has ever done has ever filled me with the wanting to continue to watch it.

But that movie engaged me as a viewer until the last GPS coordinates... At that point I was insulted.

But I KNOW I am not the only one that thought Dragon Ball was bad.

For some reason, everyone I know seemed to have liked Star Trek but I just didn't see what they saw, I guess. Oh well. I also don't really care for anything J.J. Abrams has done, though so it may be his style I don't like.

Star Trek had a very weak villain, a starship interior that looked like a Costco (except for the iBridge by Apple), and a somewhat ludicrous monster scene but was otherwise entertaining. I doubt it can be called the worst movie of 2009 even if it might not be the very best.

Huh, I was pleasantly surprised by Star Trek because it was quite unlike Abrams' other work. Star Trek was generally positive and had some really fun characters, and that made up for the ludicrous coincidences and underwhelming villain. I can see why people wouldn't like it, but even still you'd have to call yourself very fortunate if it was the worst film you saw this year.

Worst film I saw this year was Transformers II. By a long, long way.

“We may observe that the government in a civilized country is much more expensive than in a barbarous one; and when we say that one government is more expensive than another, it is the same as if we said that that one country is farther advanced in improvement than another. To say that the government is expensive and the people not oppressed is to say that the people are rich.”

Adam Smith, who must have been some kind of leftie or something.

I like a lot of Star Trek, but the concept of a mining ship drilling into a planet while all the people on the ground could do was run in panic was a bit ridiculus.

Transformers 2.

Knowing had a crappy ending but was actually pretty good otherwise in my opinion.
