I am interested in puting on some base colors and then dipping the marines, i think this would give them a dark/gross look, anyone have any tips on what color to paint each part of the model and dipping techniques?

Thanks for any help.

This needs to be in the Painting and Modeling section as it is not an actual tutorial...

However I dont know much about dipping, but dont you just put on a lighter version of the color you want, dip it, shake off excess and its done?

All these were dipped with the exception of the nurglings & Typhon -

Base colours - brass, bleached bone & rotting flesh.
I used a pair of pliers to grip the base then dipped each model.
I then held the model above the can and gently shook it to get rid of the excess. I also had to use a brush to get some more off.

I've heard that some people attach the model to a drill, hold in the centre of a bucket & turn the drill on to spin the excess off. However I didn't want to see brittle resin flyoing across the room and smacking in to a wall!

There's more picts in my gallery (link in sig)

Also I've started taking photos to use as reference for weathering which can be found here. Please send me your photos so they can be found all in one place!!

Your results atonish me; that's exactly the feeling I want for my Plague Marines. But I misunderstood the technique. What is exactly "dipping"? Could you post me a more detailed paint procedure? Thank you very much!

Foundation Paints are a godsend to Nurgle dippers, as they have several suitable colours which cover nicely over white undercoat. Gretchin Green, Khemri Brown, Dheneb Stone, Tallarn Flesh and even Iyanden Darksun are perfect colours for Nurgle. Even if they aren't very dark per se (especially over white undercoat), you want to make them lighter, preferably by adding Bleached Bone or Dheneb Stone into mix. Once you think they are light enough, add more Bleached Bone and make them one step lighter.

As for actual dipping techniques, I strongly recommend applying the dip with brush. You get better control of the result, you don't waste any dipping medium and the technique is way less prone to catastrophes than dipping the models straight into can and attaching the models into power drill. Better results in less time and less effort - yes please.

I haven't painted Plague Marines (yet?), but I have done a bunch of Daemons and other Nurgle miniatures using the dipping technique. If I were to paint Plague Marines, my first priority would be to avoid all of them being the same colour. I would choose 4-5 basic colours and use them more or less randomly on the models. Even if all my miniatures would be painted 100% in the same way, the army should look coherent with certain colours appearing in each unit. The dip itself and some simple, but effective basing should also bring coherency.

That place is the harsh dark future far left with only war left.

as mentioned above, foundation colors are your best friend.

give your minis a nice dheneb stone basecoat(gw spray gun or airbrush if possible) and start working from there.

mix the dheneb stone with other nurglish colors and apply them.dont cover all of the dheneb stone because after using the armypainter they will stand out anyhow.

i can also recomend applying it with a brush(dark brown shade works best for your needs).

if you have the spraygun or an airbrush you can spray random parts of your mini with different colors.

So:

1:dheneb stone basecoat
2:random spots with dheneb stone/nurglish color mix
3:metals(swords): just boltgun metal with armypainter.
4:!!matt!! varnish is the best finish

if you want fresh blood on your minis:

after painting and the matt varnish paint a mix of red gore and purple on the spots you want the blood on and apply army painter.
you dont want any matt varnish over this,as it wouldnt look wet anymore.

hope this helps ^_^

edit:
heres a pic of one of my lizards with fresh blood ^^
