I'm surprised I haven't seen this posted yet (I'm looking at you H.B.M.C.) but Catalyst Studios has brought out high quality multipart plastic versions of the Summoner and Hellbringer (that's the Thor and the Loki for the IS people).
Camospecs got a load of them and painted them up, IMO they look great! http://www.camospecs.com/Article.asp?FictionID=27
Also the Battletech boards have a simple Q&A on them: http://www.classicbattletech.com/forums/index.php?topic=59507.0
It's just a test run (though it is possible for normal people to order them as long as models last!!) but I think this promises great things for the future!

That's some nice work, but what I want is a 15MM scale Battletech game where 'mechs are more of a heavy support element alongside troops, battle armor and other vehicles. Something along the lines of Flames of War would be perfect for such a game. The current Battletech scale is just too small for me.

Seems pointless to me to make plastic Omni-Mechs and not include all the various bits to make the variants.
And you can play BattleTech without any 'Mechs - but the thing is, the game is about 'Mechs. Take that away and it's not really BattleTech any more.

I'm not saying I want to do away with the 'mech's, just that I want to expand away from battletech tunnel-vision.

Those are great, except for the fact that they're those new fangled clan mechs.

True. Though in the Q&A there's a statement that they probably would include variant parts for a final product.
Seems rather nice to me. If they've got a bit of sprue left over they can include more stuff I say! Maybe some infantry models, or crates of ammunition, that kind of things.

These look great!
I will agree that one of the big advantages that I was looking forward to with these was the inclusion of parts for alternate configurations, and how easy it would be to pin/magnetize them.
Also, speaking of new plastics. Er...any news on the new 25th Anniversary Box Set or the Clan Box Set? I hope Catalyst appreciates that their consumer base (such as me) would like a release date so we can prepare our funds (in order to buy many, many box sets).

The 25th Anniversary Set ran into a snag when the Unseen issue came back. Even guys like me who have a little better access haven't heard anything.
The Clan Box Set is a mystery. Not much info at all.
And the Catalyst Protocol for release dates is simple: They don't say anything until they know EXACTLY when it will hit the streets. Too much bad blood built up during the late FASA and all of FanPro days to do otherwise.

I dont want to drag this thread off-topic, but have you looked at CAV from Reaper. It is 10mm, but seems to fit your needs regarding the combined arms game. I play first edition, but second is the more popular edition.

Another approach might be to look at 15mm SF rules. If they don't include mechs already you could just adapt the vehicle rules.
Automatically Appended Next Post: BTW people posted links above for the Quick Start or trial rules for B'tech and Heavy Gear (thanks, guys!)
If there are some for CAV you could compare all three systems without paying anything.
