So, I'm wondering if any of you ork players have used Deffkoptas with a bigbomb? It dosn't seem like much, but it does give you a large template, and would probably wipe out some infantry if you hit them with it.

I'm going to test it myself later this week, but before I do, I'm a bit curious, has anyone else used one? How effective was it?

big bombs are fun, but don't get too many. in a unit of 3 deffkoptas give one of them a big bomb. use it if you get the chance but don't make it a priority.
i did take out a rather hefty chunk of nids with one once... was fun

I was thinking it would be good for wound allocation, with a buzz saw on one as well. May keep a kopter in the air for a round.

Right when I started up my Orks I quickly fell in love with what the Deffkoptas brought to the army and almost always fielded a unit or two of three TL rokkit Koptas.

In pretty much my first game ever I had a unit of koptas causing some problems to a Nid player as I popped rokkits into his Carnifexes. He had a unit of Genestealers scuttle out from the side of the board and rip up a squad of trukk boyz who had just finished wiping another unit. He murdered the living algae off my orks and sat there in a nice tight clump proud of his battle prowess. On my turn I coasted over the Genestealers, dropped the bomb, got a dead on hit, and toasted the entire squad save for one in the blast.

Bigbomms rule! Declared I proudly, and promptly included one on my list for many months. I only ever managed to wound with them one other time, when I managed to kill one member of a tactical squad.

Bigbomms are fun, and very Orky. But their single shot nature and the questionable power - I mean, seriously, they're a weak bolter that fires a template. Plus they're really quite expensive.

I later started fielding a Buzzsaw on one of my koptas and have never had to look back. Bomms are fun, but they just aren't really that good even when they do hit. Plus they're pretty darn expensive for what you get.

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Their utility is highly dependent on your type of list, your tactical genius or lack thereof, and what your opponent is playing.

If you're making an outflanking list and Deffkoptas figure prominantly....go for it.

If you've got a couple units of deffkoptas; stick one in there.

When I run Deffkoptas, I usually take them in units of one simply because my points go elsewhere, and there's no room in there for a Bigbomb. If you have a unit of 3-5....sure, stick one in there. Honestly, this is one of those things that you need to play with yourself and see if you like. Some people swear by them, others think they're worthless.
