Is it possible to win with an "all" gretchin army?

...tanks from the 23rd and 48th batallion were flanked by tanks from the enemies' 56th batallion. It was then that General Smedfordshire revealed his secret weapon: a slightly larger tank.

What about HQ?

Cheese Elemental-Love does not bloom in 40k. Love burns. It gets turned inside out, set on fire, raped, shot with bolters, and beaten with a crowbar.

Anuvver fing - when they do sumfing, they try to make it look like somfink else to confuse everybody. When one of them wants to lord it over the uvvers, 'e says "I'm very speshul so'z you gotta worship me", or "I know summink wot you lot don't know, so yer better lissen good". A friend of mine and I came up with a list for this sort of thing. I have no idea if it's able to win a game though. It basically entailed maxing your troops out with 6 squads of 30 grots, with 3 squads of 3 killa kans with kustom mega blastas or rokkit launchas for anti tank support. HQ would either be a big mek with SAG, or Thrakka.

For Thrakka we planned to get the model and have grots all over it. One would be sitting where his head should be, manning little controls.

Hmm, well there is ALOT of grots in an all gretchin army. So I suppose they could do some damage. It would pretty much be impossible to shoot them all dead thats for sure. You figure on average an Ork horde has what 3:1 on a SM? And grots are half the cost as a boy, so it be 6:1 on a SM. The odds are there I guess. Just remember they SUCK in CC and at shooting (mainly because the guns are so weak) But yea, Id take a big gunz squad personally, when used properly those things can hammer on other armies

Sounds like fun. I think somebody here once mentioned a Master-Blaster-style Warboss as HQ.

Well, 180 Grotz and 18 Runtherds is 720 Points. Throw in Mad Doc as the HQ and upgrade 1 unit to Cybergrotz and you have a pretty lulzy 1000 point army

No, it would not be possible to have an all Gretchin army, as one of your HQ choices would have to be an Ork of some kind. Once you fill up the Heavy Support and Core Choices, you'd still have points left over, unless you went with Mad Dok and made all the Gretchin have cybork body parts, then a 1500 might be possible. As for winning ability it depends who you went against, there are numbers which can overwhelm certainly, but against a more vehicle heavy force, they won't be nearly as likely to win. It is possible for that to win, but not particularly likely. 9 Killa Kans are helpful for reducing fire at your horde, while still being able to shoot back better then average. Unfortunately the Gretchin themselves are the crappiest troops in the game, so relying on them to do anything other then take table quarters and bunker down is a dangerous gambit .

You could field Skorchaz, they don't use their BS, so it doesn't matter who drives them.

if you moddelled some grot kommandos you could fill out for elite slots too

3 squads of gretchin kommandos, 6 grot swarms, 3 squads of grot driven skorchas and 9 killa kans

Kommandos still have the Ork statlines though. You would need some justification for them to be able to tear apart things in close combat at a decidedly un-gretchin manner.

Perhaps the spider riders from Warhammer Fantasy could be used? (You wold need to get the basing to work, but I think it would end up a rather conversion heavy army at any rate.)

Here is one I cooked up:

HQ: Mad Doc (so mad as to suddenly decide to lead an army of cybergrotz!)

Troops:
3 Max Mobs of non-Cyber Grotz
2 Max Mobs of Cyber Grotz

Heavy:
2 Kannon batteries with 3 Ammo Runtz and Extra Krew
Squadron of 3 Killer Kanz wiv Kustom Mega Blastaz (one wiv Armour Platez)

1456 Points

I like the mad doc gritz that someone posted which was

Mad Doc
Big Mek w/ Shock Attack gun and KFF
Deff dread
180 Grots
9 Wartrakks
9 Killa kans

Other than that The whole army just marches forward he had twinlinked Rokket launchas on some of the war traks.

If I lose it is because I had bad luck, if you win it is because you cheated.

My favorite would probably look something like this:

Warboss, Mega Armor

4 Mega Armored Nobs

Battlewagon

Big Mek with KFF or SAG

Deffdred (with 4 CC weapons)

6 Killa Kans

3 Kannons

2 Deffkoptas

3 Skorcha Buggies

4 Squads of 30 Grots

10 Spooky Spider Kommandos

About 1800 points.

they'se blood axe gits, their nob herder has a burning brand and a slugga to keep em in line and in da fight, and if dey dont wanna learn to be sneaky krumpin gits, he's gonna show d'em whos da boss

honestly i probably would still play them s2 and t2, i doubt any of my opponents would argue, but even as counts as theres no reason to assume they couldnt the toughest hearties grots that the ork kommando herder could train, doubt any of the weaker ones would survive his "training" anyway hehe

Yes but I THINK he used IG rules for them. The Great Grot Rebellion. Very cool conversion

Guy named Dave Handy fielded an all-Grot army at one of the GTs years back. The mandatory Ork models were represented by Ork bodies with Grot heads and each had it's own Grot Minder leading it by a chain, IIRC. Dave did some great armies the first few years of the US GTs and won overall once almost completely on the strength of his painting/modelling.

I think an army of all cybergrots could qualify as "lesser-lesser-daemons"
An army of grots with invulnerable saves actually sounds sort of nightmarish to me.

I must confess having always wanted to make a list like this:
Its all relativly easy to explain with conversion, and while it is by no means competative, it wouldn't be a pushover either.

HQ
Warboss – Mega Armour, Attack Sqig, Cybork Body – 125
Big Mek – Shokk Attack Gun, Choppa, ‘Eavy Armour – 100

Elite
Lootas (7) – 105
Lootas (7) – 105
Mega-Nobz (4) – 2x Kombi-Skorcha – 290
Battlewagon – Kannon, 2x Big Shoota, Grot Rigger, Red Paint Job

Troop
Gretchin (30+3) – 3 Runtherds – 120
Gretchin (30+3) – 3 Runtherds – 120
Gretchin (24+2) – 2 Runtherds – 92
Gretchin (19+1) – 1 Runtherds – 67
Gretchin (19+1) – 1 Runtherds – 67
Gretchin (19+1) – 1 Runtherds – 67

Fast Attack

Warbuggy Squadron (3) – Twin Linked Rokkit Laucha – 105
Warbuggy Squadron (3) – Twin Linked Rokkit Laucha – 105
Deffkopta Squadron (5) – Twin Linked Big Shoota – 175

Heavy Support
Killer Kan Squadron (3) – Rokkit Laucha – 150
Killer Kan Squadron (3) – Grotzooka – 135
Kannon Battery – 3x Kannon, 7x Grot Krew, 3x Ammo Runt – 72

2000

All BS 2 is explained by shoddy construction of tech.
MANz/MAW are Mega Grots (these should feature in all good grot only armies)
SAGmek is a open topped killer kan, w/SAG
Lootas are grots on saber platforms (see forgeword)
Deffkoptas are grots in little WW1-esk bi/tri planes

Cool idea, but I don't like squads of 7 Lootas. ><

You can save a few points by taking 29 gretchin and 2 runt herders instead of 30 and 3.

I think you could possibly convert some grot bikers

would be pretty cool, and you could make blades or something on the wheels to tear apart the enemies (because they arent that strong, the count was wouldnt make sense if they choppa'd the enemies)

I thought it would be all but impossible to win with one, but then I remembered that killa kanz are driven by grotz. Suddenly the appeal rises...too bad that they're still filthy xenos.

BTW, I like the idea as Spider Riders from WHFB as Kommandos.
