I'm planning to do a new army. It's going to be a undead army for 40k, using stuff from Fantasy and 40k (some convertions) but I don't know if I want to use the Nids or IG codex. Its going to have Vampires and Necromancers as HQ and various Undead for troops, elites, etc. I've been told it's best to use the IG codex for my ideas but I was thinking of hordes of zombies and such, which sounds like a Nid mentality.

What do you all think.

M: "You are the universe, alpha and omega, the beast with a thousand young, do what thou whilt shall be the whole of the law. NOW GO FORTH AND MUTILATE!!"

"Samus. That's the only name you'll hear. Samus. It means the end and the Death. Samus. I am Samus. Samus is all around you. Samus is the man beside you. Samus will gnaw upon your bones. Look out! Samus is here."

Hmm that a good question on the one hand nids have the whole numbers and swarming thing going on as well as the need to keep your hq alive but undead humans would be cool as well. Depends do you want more beastly zombies or more human like?

Interesting.....I like how you want to mix it up a bit, and how you're trying to find the best Codex to cover your needs.

I think if you want to do a Human Zombie force, then IG are probably the best for stats.....only problem, from a fluff point of view, I don't see them using Las Rifles etc...

That said, I think you might have a hard time playing them as IG without the fire teams, as that is essentially the IGs strong point, without guns you're simply cannon fodder!

So on the other hand the nids are better, I would expect zombies to be using claws and teeth...sounds like nids, and I would expect them to be slightly more powerful than a standard human.....again, sounds like nids!

If you go for the "New" zombie standard, then they're atheletes as well, so again a plus for using nids.....

So I'd say try to make the nids fit! Gve them a "Nurgle" theme, as he'd be the main culprit for a human zombie plague!

Damn GW, when are they going to finally release a human chaos army!!?!? LatD anyone?

I say nids also, If you go with nids you would be able to get WoN on you zombies, which means they just won't stop coming true zombie mentality at its finest.

Nids use thier claws and teeth and eat thier enemys just like zombies.

I say you should go nids hands down but thats just my 2 cents.

"They shall be my finest Cannon Fodder, these men who give themselves to me. Like clay I will mold them and in the furnace of war they will become cracked and broken. They will be of tissue paper and whimpy muscle. In tissue paper armor I clad them and with the mightiest flashlights they will be armed. They will be touched by every sort of plauge or disease to help further make them unhappy, all sickness will blight them. They will have almost no tactics, strategies, but lots of machines so that they can atleast stand up to a foe in battle. They are my tar pit against the Terror. They are the bulk of Humanity. They are my Imperial Guard and they will know much fear!"

Yeah the more I think about it Nids seem to fit the mold, Just hoards of Zombies. And the whole necromancy theme kinda goes with the synapse.

M: "You are the universe, alpha and omega, the beast with a thousand young, do what thou whilt shall be the whole of the law. NOW GO FORTH AND MUTILATE!!"

Nurgle daemons.

I realize that wasn't one of the options you mentioned, but I think it fits quite well. The zombies can rise from the dead right on the field (deepstrike), and they're mostly slow and tough with corrupted/poisoned weapons.

In fact, I'm almost tempted to try this one now...

IG or Servants of Decay (a FW chaos variant of IG)
The SoD have a zombie (they use melee weapons) troop choice entry which is quite good for depicting zombies...
and adding a Count as Necrosius necromancer would work well (he gives furious charge to zombies)
With Necrosius and 2 zombie squads you would have all your compulsory choices filled

Interesting opinions here. I'm going to have to do some studying here. The Demon suggestion does sound cool, especially comparing the Deep Striking to rising from the grave. And my vampires can be Demon Princes. On the othe side I need to check on the SOD.

Where would find the rules for the the SOD?

'Nids, all the way. Like it's been said, without their guns IG's got nothing. The demon thing has some merit but I just loathe chaos in general.

The Daemon thing would "explain" why they are zombies in the first place....I guess, but using Chaos Daemons will pop you points costs through the roof, right? Not to mention, making the zombies a bit more powerful then the fluff would suggest.

However, saying that, out of the, now, three possible ideas I would run with either Demons or Nids. i just don't see how IG bring anything to the party....

Now if you were wanting a Chaos Cultist army, then yeah, because their reliance on guns makes alot of sense....but shambling zombies, driven by instinct alone...these boys arn't going to be firing a gun anytime soon.

SoCal, USA!

1. Guard

Best choice. Zombies are your Conscript blobs, so no problem there.

2. Chaos Marines

The Zombies pop out of the ground "count as" Daemons, while your Necromancers are Sorcerors. More elite and buff for the Sorcs, but possible.

3. Nids
Nids have problems with your characters, as their HQs are big monsters compared to 40k humans.

Going to be a butthead and suggest Orks as a third choice. many LATD players have shifted to using orks.

Also their is a coming Nid remake. That may effect your plans.

I would go with IG, and have them resurrected by a chaos Sorc or something.

I think you might want to switch it up depending on what unit your after. IG would be great for for shambling hoard troope types. Some nids or nugle stuff would be good for some zombie beats. And HQ has to be either a crazed commisar, or a socerer.
