Would it work out for me to roll a two handed weapons champion, or are there unforeseen
problems that would crop up and spoil my fun?

I keep hearing that you should play as a mage to properly go through the game. Screw that, I'm playing as a human rogue and it's fun so far. Then again, I play on easy because it's more for the story than the point and click combat.

I have played a fair bit through with many combinations now.
I made a mage first, and the only advantage to them - that I can really see - is that it means you do not need to recruit/spec a healer (at least if you are willing to do it yourself).
2handers work rather well for a champion even. You can have a second specilization (@14) even if you want to get more DPS out of it. My lady is playing a warrior with a 2hander that is templar/champion atm and she loves it.

I have great fun with every class.

I dunno, I'm playing a mage the now on my first playthrough, and the rampant AOE destruction is awesome ('mon the Tempest). Friendly Fire be damned! :p

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

YEAH. The big two-hander.

I was looking at the classes, the Reaver-type class looks cool. Demon-fighter something like that, I think it is Sword and Shield.

I certainly feel powerful playing a mage. He actually sometimes tends to be stronger alone. Darn allies always running toward my AOE spells. Crushing prison is awesome, and grease/fireball combo is just alot of fun.

Mass Paralysis, and Mass Sleep basically break the game as 95% of the fights are about not being overwhelmed by hordes of peons.

The ones that aren't about that can be neatly handled by Winter's Grasp, and Cone of Cold.

The Blood Magic spells are stupidly good, and Arcane Warrior can make you almost impossible to kill after you've gotten some decent mana regeneration gear.

I'm still hestitant to buy this. My PC is an old pile of crap that struggles to run Dawn of War on good settings and the Xbox 360 version doesn't look that good.

Hah. Still haven't gotten around to this game.

Still playing the Tactical JRPG Disgaea 3 and having a blast.

You know I was not real interested in this one but I think I will probably play it at some point, I mean it has a good story and everything right. Probably with a Warrior class so it is not too easy (Mage) or stupid (Rogue).

Well, I rented it for my 360, and have two characters going; a dwarf commoner warrior and a human mage. I have to say, my warrior, who specialises in two-handed weapons, seems to go down way too fast, and I've done all I can to maximise my health and defense (except for a shield, of course). The mage, however, is faring much better, especially without the danger of friendly fire (I'm playing on normal difficulty).

I'm up to that village, the one after you meet the Mabari. There's two party members there, but I don't know if I want them. Firstly, my Nice Guy Dorf will lose approval from Alastair (who is the broliest of all bros) and get a bad rep with the Chantry Mother if I free Shen, and I'm not too keen on having that Rogue/Bard in my party because I tried a rogue out and they aren't very good. My mage is in the same place, and Shen would be very useful as a tank/big scary whacking guy, but I don't want the rogue/bard for roleplaying purposes (and I'm going to try and get the romance going with Morrigan, which means I have to be nasty sometimes.

Decisions, decisions.

What platform?

I bought it on PC and loved it. Played it on my friend's hexbox the other day and hated it.

Gifts overcome all the issues with approval. Excepting the crisis moments, of course.

Also, Rogues are awesome. However, Leliana is a very bad Rogue. Archery is really weak, though it is useful when going up against multiple spell casters. During the end game a rogue specced for dual dagger is almost as good at tanking as a sword/board Warrior due to high chance to evade.

The xbox it was. I really thought about getting it for PS3, too. In the end, I'm not sure it would have made any difference. The last time I tried to play it (weeks ago) I turned it on, loaded the game, looked at the TV screen and sighed . . . I went to get a snack and then came back . . . and read a book for a while . . . and called my fiancee . . . and made plans with some friends . . . and then it was time to go. If my xbox was a person it would have been a pretty awkward moment.

Me: "Yeah, I gotta run now. Call me sometime."

Dragon Age: "But I don't have your number."

Me: (from a distance) "Bye!"

The lack of a zoom/tactical view function ruins the game.

I'm doing fine with my Xbox version. Yeah, the controls are a bit awkward, but it's really not that bad once you get used to it (in my case, playing for several hours straight).

Dogma: You don't think it's worth recruiting Leliana then?

But you'll miss out on all the great stories!!!

(see why I hate this game? p.o.s. broke my heart)

What, the fact that you can't get every story and outcome in one playthrough?

Wouldn't that defeat the point of an RPG?

Not at all. I was speaking more to the point that none of the story/outcome I've seen (having played everything but Dwarf commoner) is any better than Leliana's story time. Worse actually. I liked Leliana's accent. Reminded me a bit of Miranda Richardson in Black Adder.

IMO, Dragon Age itself defeats the point of a RPG. But that's just, like, my opinion, man.

It doesn't hurt you.

Despite what Manchu says I feel Dragon Age embodies an RPG as it forces you to sacrifice your own preferences in order to lead a large group. Or cling to your preferences while giving up the advantages of multiplicity. It kills gamer stereotypes, and its better for it.

Sorry, your antisocial nonsense doesn't work in the real world.

The only thing that Dragon Age forces you to do is be totally miserable while slogging through its pitiful excuse for a story line. And it's not even good at that. I escaped quite easily and have had nary the merest temptation to play it again. Would rather clean all the bathrooms in my house ten times over. I do miss that lovely seventy dollars, however.

Unfair. If I refused to eat a pile of dog gak shaped like a cake, you wouldn't ask me what's wrong with cake.

@JD: I will refrain from answering beyond what I've already posted as I am clearly not with the current mainstream here (remember, this generation of mainstream gave/is giving you Twilight).

I probably would.

After all, if the cake shape is pleasing, then one would expect it to be an asset to any given substance of alternate composition.
