Here's a new papercraft model I'll be releasing this week at DavesGames.Net. It's called the Asylum, where you lock up all the crazies and the criminals who are too interesting for the noose, so that the men of medicine in your medieval town can dissect their twisted brains.
This model features multi-layered PDFs, giving you a selection of surface textures and external items that you can mix-and-match in countless ways. Wide balconies give the asylum's guards a good view of any escapees, and have enough room for up to 4 miniatures. There's even a little outhouse included.
Here are a couple of possible configurations for this model, but of course there are many more:

So are these meant to be printed, glued to something and then assembled, or is it foldypaperystuff?
If the former, then I am highly tempted. If the latter, not so much.

This model is designed to be printed on cardstock, then cut and scored with a hobby knife, then folded and glued using ordinary paper glue. If you wanted to glue the prints to something more rigid, just trim off the tabs that you don't need, and use whatever method you prefer to put them together. I know some folks who do exactly that with my models in order to give them extra weight. It seems like a lot of extra work to me, since a good cardstock is sturdy enough to bear the weight of metal minis just fine.

This may sound foolish, but how does one print on to cardstock?
In a 'regular' home PC printer?

Print them onto thin card, then glue onto thicker stuff I guess.
And it might be a bit more fannying around, but I should I invest in a couple, I think I'll glue it onto Plasticard or somesuch.
Is not so much about game durability, as length of service!

Most desktop printers can run cardstock without any trouble. (We might be referring to different things way when we say "cardstock". What I'm talking about is paper that's only about as thick as a business card.) 80# or 100# white cardstock is easy to find and not terribly expensive for a ream of 500 sheets. Anyway, check your printer's user manual if you're not sure what kind of paper you can run through it. But I also produce single-layered PDF models for folks who want files they can bring to a print shop and get them printed without having to fiddle with extra layers. You should be able to get laser prints on cardstock from any print shop for about $1.50 per sheet.

Sure, I understand. For what it's worth, I have papercraft models that are more than a year old and show no signs of wear. I do have to dust them off every once in a while, but that's all the maintenance that's needed.
I offer a free little model on my site if you want to test out your method.

I printed up the hovel a few nights ago (free on his site )
I figured I'd print it on some light card stock and then build it in the morning. Once it was printed, I thought "Well, maybe I'll just cut it out first..." It cut so fast with my xacto and cutting mat, that I went ahead and glued it together. Whole process took maybe 10 minutes..
I'm shocked at the stability. And I love the quality.
I'm curious how stable the taller pieces are.
I'd pick some up, but my empire army is retired until the next version of fantasy comes out. What I'd really like to see is some more of the sci-fi stuff.
And at the price, it's a quick way to get some pretty nice looking terrain on the table. I especially like the fact that you can change up textures so that you can print 2 or 3 of the same house and have them still be different.
Good stuff.
Alpharius - It's easy. Most home printers will let you print on light cardstock. You can pick up a ream of it for 10-15 bucks (200 sheets, I think) at the office supply store. If you don't have a decent color printer, any copyshop should be able to print it up for you as well.

So do you buy a copy of the PDF, and thus have access to easily replaced Terrain then?

Really, they're about the same as the smaller models. Having four walls, a roof and a ground tile to shore up all of the corners keeps everything together nicely, I find. I do include support struts on some of my larger models that can be glued inside the main structure, just in case you want to give them some extra stability.
Mad Doc Grotsnik wrote:So do you buy a copy of the PDF, and thus have access to easily replaced Terrain then?
That's how it works. If you're interested, you should check to see which of my models are single-layered and which ones are multi-layered. The single-layered models are one-look-only, but they're a little more affordable than the multi-layered files. The multi-layered models give you lots of options for choosing different surface textures and external features. In Adobe Acrobat Reader, open up the Layers menu and just click the layers on or off. You can print out as many versions of those models as you like, so each multi-layered models is really many models in one.

They're on their way! I'm working on putting the skins on a large sci-fi bunker as we speak. It has doors and windows that can be opened and closed, and an upper deck that lifts off so you can easily get to your minis inside. I hope to have it completed by this weekend, and I'll post up some images when there's something to see.

Yes, sort of.
I don't want to upset people who have already bought the whole set of models just because they're now in a bundle, and discounted to boot. It's unfair to those folks, and it would make me feel greedy.
What I'm planning to do (eventually) is release some variety packs of 4 or 5 models that use the same basic patterns as the models you can get individually, but I'm going to make a few changes to them. I might mirror-image them, tweak or remove some of the layers, change some colors and add some new features and extras.
So my plan is to design bundles that are tempting for people who already have those individual models, while preserving the appeal of the individual models for people who buy the bundles.
