I'm looking to get into the High Elves and I see GW has a larger set than the battalion for $175, which seems reasonable for what you get. I'm looking for some opinions on whether I should drop the cash on this one? I have the cash and I'm into the army. Thanks.

In CDN currency , you only save $1.60 buying the larger set compared to 2 battalion

So its up to you.

In American currency, it's $5 cheaper than 2 Battalions and replaces 8 of the archers and the 8 knights from the second battalion with a Lord kit, Wizard kit, and Chariot.

I'd rather the big army box.

Honestly I would probably buy stuff separately. Besides being able to assemble stuff slowly and properly, you can also paint them before you get new stuff. Also it comes with some things which are just not useful in my opinion. I believe they come with silver helms which just are not worth the points IMO.

I was more or less looking at the fact that it appears to include HQ.

I don't mind having a lot of models to paint and assemble. I rather enjoy the modeling and painting aspects of the hobby. I've been involved with 40K since it's 3rd edition, so I'm used to those aspects. I've also got a friend in the hobby that likes to come over and help me put all the stuff together, chat about the hobby, and put the minis in crazy poses.

I give the Army Box an emphatic thumbs up.

While only marginally cheaper than 2 battalions, it'll come with pretty much everything you need to start off -

2 units of Archers
1 big unit of Spears
2 RBTs
1 Chariot
Silver Helms (though admittedly unlikely to be fielded - though conversion fodder to turn into Dragon Princes if you so desire)
2 Combat Heroes
2 Mages

Whereas getting 2 battalions would mostly just get you more Silver Helms. So basically, the only things your unlikely to use from the set are the Silver Helms - and minus elite infantry, it lets you vary up your list somewhat before committing to a list and basically lets you play from the get go.

Jin: that is what I was thinking. The idea of converting the Silver Helms to Dragons Princes is something that I had not thought of.

Its worth it , because even though you only save some money , it contains units that you cant normally get discount on out of battle force.

Actually, if you buy the Army Box, you save about 30% (IIRC) off retail, which you'd be somewhat hard pressed to find outside of ebay.
