I've done that before.
Offered up the Imperial Guard Army Box as a prize for a tournament I ran. The prize quite literally was the box that the Imperial Guard Army deal came in.
Another time we were having a building day at my place and I couldn't find something. I declared that the first person to find it would get one of my six Valkyrie boxes. I've never seen my group get so motivated to find something. Within minutes, one of them had found it. True to my word, I handed him the box. Not the contents, just the box. I have a set of Valk sprues with no box to hold them to this day.

Gonna level with you guys here. As a collector, I would certainly buy an empty box such as this if I had the need. Suppose you had the Beakie Marines still on the sprue, but the box was destoyed somehow, say crushed when moving or water damage? This would be a perfect find.

I've got one or two of those boxes.
The bidding starts at $20, which is a fraction of what the current box costs.
