Subject: What would you do with a Holo-deck from star trek?
Mary Poppens, but it's her just face and feet on a raptor body with squids for arms......and I'm He-Man.....and Sabrina the teenaged witch is there, but she just screams in a corner.
And thats why they banned me from the holo-deck!
And whilst you're pointing and shouting at the boogeyman in the corner, you're missing the burglar coming in through the window.
Well, Duh! Because they had a giant Mining ship. If you had a giant mining ship you would drill holes in everything too, before you'd destory it with a black hole

How does the holodeck work? Isnt it a small room? how do they make holograms of large areas? how do they run in a straight line without bumping into the wall in 5 seconds?

Actually the way it works is that ht producer gives the set director some directions and then he and his crew get together and build whatever is necessary for the scene. Or short answer: it doesn't work because it isn't real.

Besides already knowing that, that wasn't the point. It doesn't matter how it works because it doesn't, so your question makes no sense. Either go along with suspension of disbelief or just ignore the thread. Might as well ask how Cloud Strife swings a 900lb. 3 ft wide 10 feet long sword like it is a box of aluminum foil. He does it because he is supposed to, not because you actually can. A holodeck works because it is supposed to, not because it can.
I'd probably use it to practice mountain climbing or base jumping of the Statue of Liberty.

I'd FTL drive my battlestar into very low orbit, launch fighters through the fires, then FTL out of there, all whilst sauntering around in one hell of a moustache...
Then I take on 4 baseships...
AAAAWWWWW YEAH!

Are you obtuse on purpose? Its a valid question because i dont watch start trek . Im sure im not the only one that wonder how it works especially if its a hologram in a confined space.
And i was pretty sure they gave an explanation on how it works in the show ( consider how hard core most fans are ) , i just dont know what it is. Old habit dies hard doesnt it ahtman
startrek is a sci fi show , i would have thought they have explanation for the holodeck other then " its magic " thus i was curious and asked.
I dont see your point with cloud and his magic sword.

Asking what it does is a whole different question than how it works. The former can be answered reasonably and the latter is answered with faerie dust and puppy dog tails.

Personaly, even though I'm no Cliff Burton,I'm getting on stage...always wanted to play in front of 20,000 screaming fans.
I am both selfish and chaotic. I value self-gratification and control; I want to have things my way, preferably now. At best, I'm entertaining and surprising; at worst, I'm hedonistic and violent.

I would lose all touch with reality...which would be far more harsh and disappointing than the world I would create where I am a God that does nothing but get laid and destroy all my enemies in glorious combat.
