Is there anything I can so to support my Kommandos when they ambush? Would taking stormboys and DS to support Kommando Squad help much or would they all still just end up as a suicide squad anyway?

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

If your kommandos are going to ambush, then you have Snikrot along. I don't know what your "DS" means? Presuming that's deep striking and that you mean taking Zagstruk along to accomplish the support role, it isn't a particularly effective combination; you don't have any guarantee that they'll both come out of reserve at the same time.

In reality, if you want to support kommandos coming out, you've got a couple of choices - take a mechanized ork list that can get up in your opponent's face in turn 2-3, or take a squad of two (preferably two) of 20 Stormboyz (including a nob and powerklaw). Stormboyz combined with a trukk list go over well too - they've got the speed to keep up. If you're going foot-slogging, send those stormboyz ahead to get into your opponent's face on turn 2, which both protects the boys coming in from behind and leaves your opponent with tough decisions to make when your kommandos come on.

DS = Deep Strike, you are correct. Yes i was thinking about taking Snikrott and Zagstruk for this combo. i didnt even think about my storm boyz and my kommandos not coming in at once, good point. Thank you

In the Webway.

Snikkers is a must for Kommando units. A deep-striking stormboy unit is a good idea and including Zagstruk so that they can assault is good too though you will have to take a large mob to make sure they dont all die on the swwoping assault.

However this may be quite expensive and a unit of boyz/burnas in a trukk or some warbikers/deffkoptas may be just as effective. Considder lootas to lay down suppotive fire.

Snikrot is a good guy to have, yes, he will probably die by the end of the game, however, his unit will kill a lot, and force a lot more to come after him.

Zagstruk is like having an orky Vanguard squad. He's meh, but he can cause some havoc as well, and he has an I-value PK when he charges, which is pretty cool when you charge.

Both of them in the same list, totals up to something like 500 points of units that are in reserve, and may not come in at the same time. If you want to take a unit of infantry to mess up your opponent, don't make it a third or a fourth of your army. That doesn't leave enough stuff for him to be diverted from.

For units that acomplish the same task ie:suicide squad, snikrot kommandos are much better at it, mostly beacuse of the burnas that you MUST give them.

I am giving Mad Dok some work with my list. I've not had much occasion to try it, but I'm going with Mad Dok Grotsnik in the army so that my kommandos can get Cybork bodies. This should improve the survival rate for the short time they spend between close combat events.

Without Snikrot, you have a set of orks coming out of reserve to a board edge that is the one you want only 2/3rds of the time. Against a good player, the kommandos won't be able to assault anyone on the turn they enter (though, the tradeoff is that you've forced the player to place units closer together than he or she may wish to, which can be good).

With Snikrot, you should be able to place him in range to, with a WAAAAGH, get into CC that same turn.

For support, you'd be best off with dakka since it can be laid down on any unit likely to fire at the Kommandos the turn after they ambush an opponent unit to death.

Murphy's Paradox: More planning means more possible points for failure. Less planning means more unexpected events.
