Ludik bazar is a french online store that took all the Rackhams metal range and when I received a newsletter talking about Alkemy new army deal I checked it out.

The deal called " Les enfants de L'autome" was for the aurlok nation race and had the army starter set, and the last two waves boxed sets, a free lithography and and and the super amazing and darn hard to get limited miniature Tha'pioca...

Ordered asap for 70euros plus 15euro for shipping and a week later arrived here... since my time is short this is a "quick first glance review" I will make amore in depth one about minis and rest of the stuff in more detail... but for now its a quicky also because these deals seem to be VERY limited... On the box said 9-33 meaning not many left.

Noticed the box seemed way to little for 2 box sets and starter set... then noticed they had taken everything out of box sets and squeezed it in the starter...wow, and it fits.

Lithography is very nice and would give a nice painting with a frame... a run down theres lots of cards with nice artwork and stats, a small rulebook with 35pages very colorfull and plenty of images and illustrations, miniatures in some kind of strange bag ( you guys know the ice cube plastic bags to put in the frigger? its similar), 6 colorfull dice and probably the ugliest tape measure on earth( its short small piece of plastic)
Miniatures are some kind of plastic but looks more like resin quality... Its a new material they choosed

For more in detail pics and review you have to wait porbably for the weekend or go to alkemy site in kraken editions.

And some quick fotos:

yes. they should because it's primarily old Rackham stuff. That does not mean that they will be any more successful than their predecessor.

Nor does it mean that people will actually play the game.

These have nothing to do with rackham sorry, please stop with ignorant comments towards the french people and alkemy company...

Being English I am not overly impressed with the French (and v. versa no doubt). However, a good model is a good model regardless of who makes it and those are impressive models. I know these aren't made by Rackham but if anyone bought their Prime model they would know that their casting put 95% of anything people put out to shame. I am sure it is the same with these.

Theses models look awesome and I will take a closer look myself and weigh up purchasing them. It would be nice to have something decent to paint - some thing with character.

2014 will be the year of zero GW purchases. Kneadite instead of GS, no paints or models. 2014 will be the year I finally make the move to military models and away from miniature games.

Those are some nice figures.

Some of the Aurloks would make nice based for Kroot if you didn't want to play Alkemy. Also the Cobra guard may well become bases for death cult assasins

Theres some interesting bits about kraken miniatures that should matter to some... this is basicly some of the most talented painters in one place... a place were Jeremie, allanC and manumillitari put their efforts on... If they are french, spanish, english or... should not influence anyone regarding their miniatures choices... Its much like me saying i will not buy PP because its like reaper... american...kind of redundant and shortsighted...because a miniature is only that a mini afterall.

Comparing these with my rackham collection, these are much less packed with absurd amount of details like rackham ones, these should be much more fun to paint.

These are also the same plastics that privateer press uses. Alkemy/Kraken was using these first, then PP jumped on the bandwagon.

Dont worry I will take some comparing scale shots in next little review.

Back for a more detailed review about the models.

I have washed, cleaned, filled and drilled these plastics and here are my thoughts about them.

First I washed the pastics in water and dish washer just in case then I picked up mouldlines( very small and discreet) with a hobby knife and to be honest the plastic doesnt behave well with xactos since the results look messy, so I opted for sandpaper for the most part of the cleaning and it worked ou in the end.

The mini design is very clever since all loose bits have somekind of already sculpted pins, so you dont need to pin anything really because everything fits very well and is very strong.
For example a arm has a plastic bit at its end that looks like a pin and the body part has a very deep hole to accomodate the arm... very clever.
I had to use super glue since normal plastic glue doesnt work on these.
The assembly with the alread sculpted pins only needs 1 small drop of glue and thats it, its all very simple and quite fast.
I only assembled and glued the big fat fella the rest of the warband I just assembled with no glue and it holds okish.

The plastics are diferent from the normal plastic kits we work everyday, they seem to hold detail better and sharper and they bend a bit making them more resistant... well if you employ a big stress on them they will snap like any other plastic.
The best way I can describe these are: they mix the resin capacity for accepting detail work and the flexibility and durability of plastics in one formula.

But its not only good news there are some problems... first one is avoidable since the pin design system kind of solves it but your normal plastic glue does not work well on them.

And the matter for bigger concern is that much like those Forgewold warping issues these plastics, specially the very thin parts suffer from warping also... so you really have to steal your wife hairdryer to warm it up and correct them.

And some fotos with some scale clarifications...

This foto shows a bit of the pin system, check out the deep hole on the arm pit... this arm once glued there will not go anywere.

The first mini I assembled and based ready for painting.

Some scale shots

Check out the warping on the spears, not good... funny thing notice the huge gap on frog torso? the arms design have a huge kind of pin that goes there and makes it so simple and fast to assemble.

Finally a familly pic and by accident noticed that the starter set box is done in such a way that your assembled troops fit in just nicelly, making it easier transport them, dont know if it was planned by Kraken but its cool nevertheless.

Overall it was a pleasure and quite refreshing to work with these new plastics and experience the clever model design... Cant wait to assemble all other sweet miniatures in this army deal... I will be busy for many months with just this box.
