Alright, so over the past year or so i've been putting together an ork army off of whatever I could scrap off (Quite literally, bunch of stuff from the AOBR sets. Some orders of my own and just recently the scraps from an old ork battleforce box.)

So far, I have the following units:

11 Gretchen (1 Runtherd with a Grotprod and squig)
1 Kannon (Custom built)
5 Warbikers (Twin Linked Dakkaguns)
5 Deffkoptas (Twin linked Rokkit Launchas)

2 Trukks (Red Paintjob and Reinforced Ram)
1 Meganob (1 Shoota/Rokkit Combiweapon and PKlaw)
2 Warbosses ((1*)1 Shoota/Skorcha Combiweapon/Attack squig. And (2*)Combishoota with Powerklaw)

Feasting on the souls of unworthy opponents

Here's some advice:

1. A Loota is an ork with a deffgun; which is defined as the biggest gun he could find. If you want to make a squad of Lootas, don't be afraid to take shoota boys, say "those are the biggest guns they could find, ala deffguns" and stick them in your loota squad. With a few actual lootas to show what's what, there won't be any confusion. Voila! 15 Lootas.

2. 12 is the right size for a squad of orks in a trukk - if they're going to be slogging it on the ground, you want....many more than 12. IE, 30.

3. A little kustomizing will make your army go a *long* way. With a little cutting and gluing, those warbikers can be individually equipped nob bikers! More importantly...those 8 nobs you have can be tailored to be a nob squad; Having been through AoBR boxes myself, those nobs their arms cut off and a variety of magnetizing so that I could take a squad of nobs with survivability. That meganob can be called Ghazghkull, or even a warboss in 'Eavy armor. You've got options.

4. Don't forget that if you have a warboss, a nob squad counts as a troop choice. Also, nobs don't belong on foot, so mechanize them or put them on bikes if you're going to use them.

5. DeffKoptas are GREAT anti-tank for their ability to outflank or scout move and administer STR8 shots to side/rear armor early game. However, I'd encourage you to entertain smaller units; one squad of three, one squad of two.

Ork stuff comes with a lot of bits; you can go to Walmart and buy a $5 toy trukk and orkify it. =p Don't feel the need to put every model into your army....decide how you want to play. Decide the Orky theme you like the most, and start crafting the models you have to suit that theme.

Dash speaks the truth! Have fun with building and kustomizin'! Hell my buddies have fun making models with/for me. Only 1 other ork player in my group but everyone likes to help make stuff with me 'cause it is just damned fun. My one buddy made me a Kommando using extra ork arms, legs, a head, and buncha extra bits with a stack of plastic palm tree tops as a body... Orkish camo: a walking tree bristling with knives! In any other army it would be ridiculous, but in an ork force it just fits lol.
As far as build advice goes... Orks are a very diverse codex with several strong builds. Choose one you like and dedicate yourself to it. You can find plenty of posts in this forum with examples of those builds. Look over them and the ork articles also on this site, and get back to us. That's what I try to do. The dakka community is very helpful, if bullheaded, never fear asking someone a question.

Ok, list 1:

Drop the dok - isn't that good.

What is the warboss armed with?

Lootas are too small, need at least 10.

Nobz are too small and need a transport.

Meganobz need a transport - you fancy slow and purposeful foot slog? Me neither.

Nob needs a power klaw and boss pole or not point taking. Drop the big shoota as your trukk will be more 18" and you cannot shoot while moving at that speed.

One warbuggy won't last long. Nor will one killa kan and one kannon. I would add more kanz.

List 2:

Drop the dok get a warboss.

More lootas. 4 won't do anything and get blasted off the table.

Mostly see above and increase unit side of stormboyz, but they aren't good as 6+ armour save ork flying around isn't too hot. Going through terrain needs a dangerous terrain test as jump infantry.
