There are several issues here.

1. Bush was elected president and was a legitimate subject for criticism and parody. Mrs Obama wasn't.

2. The pictures of Bush liken his expressions to pictures of chimpanzees. In the Mrs Obama case, the artist has morphed her pic with a monkey's to create a new image. This is a different thing.

3. Why shouldn't liberals bitch about things that annoy them? Right-wingers do.

What do EITHER of you think would be wrong with superimposing monkey features onto an african american's face as opposed to showing someone waving next to a picture of a chimpanzee waving.

You know when ever somebody claims that conservative hate for Obama has to do with his politics, a picture with watermelons in front of the white house or this, it just makes them seem plain evil. Funny enough, the article says google got in trouble before when typing in jew sent you to a anti-semitic site.

When people refer to Bush, it's that he makes silly judgements, kind of akin to somebody saying " do they have monkeys writing the script?"

Mrs. Obama just so happens to be of African background, and that has alsays been a way of protraying a race (Blacks, Asians, Pols) as less than human to try and justify the treatment that they have taken in the past.

@KK - as a public figure, any Obama is a legit target for parody & abuse - that's part & parcel of being tied to the Presidency. Now if, the people had a tradition of laying off First Ladies entirely, I could kind see your point, but the track record says no way.

Also, those Bush monkey faces are no less dehumanizing in intent.

@MGS: whoa, dude. Also, with Obama in office, supposedly we're post-racism. But let's be clear this isn't the late 1800s / early-mid 1900s when people were actively being lynched for the color of their skin, nor racism was deeply ingrained into society.

Quite frankly, if you're as British and white as your avatar, I really doubt you have any clue what racism really means from a personal standpoint, so when you want to wave the banner, keep in mind that others have actually lived it in America.

Also, if we're being PC here, I think you'd do better with "black guy", or "African American" (no hyphen).

Fun fact - as an adult, I don't think I've ever worked for a generic white (i.e. WASP) guy. Now that I think about it, that's pretty cool. I wonder if there's something subliminal there. Hmm...

@yakface: IMO, you're kinda buying into the liberal interpretation here. The fact of the matter is that any monkey faces have similar intent to make fun of the target. The perception of how acceptable / non-acceptable seems to stem largely from one's political background whether the target is on your side of the aisle.

Personally, I say, if Obama wanted to be first "post-racial" President, he should deal with the fallout that he knew would occur. He should use it as an opportunity to educate. Of course, as SNL pointed out that he hasn't actually done anything, perhaps even this might be too much to ask.

Finally, if this thread really is something that we can't discuss maturely, NUKE IT. KILL IT WITH FIRE!!!

I think there are bigger problems to worry about than the occasional offensive picture in Image Search.

Google took the site down, the White House declined to comment, end of story.

What about the hundreds of depictions of Rice as a monkey? That wasn't racist, that was just satire. Having said that you can mock the President BUT LEAVE HIS FAMILY THE FETH ALONE.
