First place: All-khorne daemons. I was surprised at this, as in my experience someone with zero magic defense is just asking for something horrible to happen to them. Granted, most of the army had magic resistance - but an army like VC whose magic doesn't usually target the enemy to be dangerous would have a field day.

Second place: Bretonnians.

....wha? Nobody saw this coming. I didn't really get a good look at his list, but I'm betting he had the honor that gives killing blow to large targets, and was able to use it to his advantage. Good metagame planning or lucky pairings, I'm not sure which.

Third place: Kairos Scribes daemons.

I think fourth, fifth, and even sixth were also daemons.

*a little more than a golf clap for the brets*

That is impressive, and shows the continued strength of that armybook, despite its age and one-dimensionality But how can you fault them, those cav boys are good at what they do.

While I half want to steal some credit from the kr0n boys by point out how drunkenly insane fleshies, flaming jugger heralds and the thirster are, nearly every build I've seen with thirster and spammed puppies also include siren songs and MSU horrors to help them along (also: flamers). Also, all those daemons, while disheartening and/or not unexpected, make me wonder where the DE and VC ended up? Tier 0 apparently owned Tier 1 hard enough to shut them all out? Whoa.

I finished middle of the pack. Teclis getting an IF drain magic at the end of each of his magic phases really shut me down. I also didn't know how the building rules worked, so my wraiths stayed stuck in combat with lucky 4+ phoenix guard instead of getting pushed back and being free to move wherever they wanted.

From ulthuan.net and someone else said that 4 was another daemon army, so HE made it into top 5 along with brets and Daemons.

Nice job of the Bretonnian player!
This is excatly what we other than high-top armies need. A Morale boost of a, well, not bad, but of the "normal" armies almost winning 'Ard Boyz!

Win/Draw/Lost statics
Space Orks: 11/1/1
Space Marines: 10/2/5
Lizardmen: 8/2/3
High Elves: 13/2/2 and one tournament victory!

Oh, I don't know. I think I would rather of had daemons win all the top spots. Maybe they would have gotten a clue?

You mean Daemons won. I am shocked. I am wondering if the Brett player even had to face Daemons or paired around them. Congrats to him any way as a top finish is a top finish.

Grats to the Brett player.

Good to see any other book in second than Daemons.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Here is the Winning List from our friend over at the Round Table forums:

Ok first off here was my list:

Nathan R. The Knights of the White Rose. Bretonnia. 3000 points.

Green Knight 275

Lord, Grail Vow, Wyrmlance, Gilded Cuiass, Dragons Claw, 262
Horse, Shield, General.

Paladin. Battle Standard Bearer. Horse, Sword of Might, 124
Gromril Great helm.

Damsel, Horse, Dispel Scroll, Dispel Scroll 130

Damsel, Horse, Dispel Scroll, Chalice of Malefore. 125

Paladin, Horse, Enchanted shield, Birthsword of Carcassone 119

Damsel, Horse, Falcon horn of Fredemund 125

8 Knights of the Realm, Banner 208

8 Knights of the Realm, Banner 208

8 Knights of the Realm, Banner 208

8 Knights Errant, Banner, Banner of Errantry. 194

10 Peasant bowmen 60

10 Peasant bowmen 60

11 Peasant bowmen, skirmish, 77

6 Questing knights 168

3 Pegasus knights 165

5 Mounted Yeoman, Shields, musician 87

Trebuchet 90

Trebuchet 90

5 Grail knights, banner, warbanner. 235

All in all it doesn't seem so angry now does it?

Tactics were the Questing knights flanked. My lord runs in the center with a normal unit. Against fear causers he joins the Grails.

The sneaky part of this list is even if I get charged I win combat usually. Both the BSB and and paladin have S5 when charged and can hold their own.

I can match most enemy units toe to toe and win. Green knight interfers and the pegasus knights draw fire.

Cheers!

Next time your friend plays in a tournie, he needs to make sure he doesn't get a rule wrong to his advantage and then when called on it claim to have just looked it up and that he's playing it right. Depending on the other player to assume you are lying and double check you like that isn't really cool.

#5 should have placed higher but was screwed over by #3 claiming there wasn't enough time to finish the last turn (15 minutes) which would have consisted entirely of his few remaining units being shot up by bolt throwers and Teclis. Overall the upper levels of that tournie really sparked something douchie in people and I'm not sure why since the prizes were just replica weapons. Luckily none of my games had players like these but then again I didn't really care about winning an axe...

Hey, thanks there Ixquic. I was the number 5 elf player. While I will not go into particulars about that game, I will say this: It was very nice to have people all over the tourney come to my defense. Players I have never met were talking to judges on my behalf. And to any who did, thanks. It was refreshing. It was one of the least pleasant games in my career, but having complete strangers railing against d-baggery and questionable playing was very heartening.

Big enough to have a fall down template. Yup, that's me!

The Austin crew can um.... be....very competitive. I'll leave it at that. Some questions were raised at the 'Ard Boyz 40k semifinals too.

I've noticed that things always come up concerning their sportsmanship and rules questioning, and then they always come up in top spots too. Really makes me think. Really makes me want to play against them more often, too.

For the record though, he has the same comments about you. It's funny seeing that sort of stuff from both sides. Given the track record I know from that group, though, I think you're probably in the right here.

Ah the joys of playing strangers in a highly unregulated yet highly competitive game

Sssshhh... don't say that too loudly, some of the designers might hear you and cleanse your heretic thoughts. Everyone knows that wargaming is non-competitive...

Thanks for the benefit of the doubt. It is a shame that that game had to stand out as so bad. Every other game from regionals, to semis, to the other two finals, were great games against really cool people.
