Does anyone know what it is?

I dont have simple green or detol or any of the products listed by American ur European members.
But if i know what ingredient that is making it effective i can try to find some cleaner with same content?

I remember seeing it mention before but i cant remember the name ><

In my experience with oven cleaner, it's Sodium Hydroxide. Simple Green, I couldn't say.

methylated spirits works with a tooth brush..

Obviously use a test fig first, cause my metho may be different from yours. I have used it on plastic. no problem. Also I didn't let it soak I just scrubbed it.

Acetone might be the thing your thinking of.. apparently kills plastic though.

I've always thought it was the pine oil in detol that does the job. Hope that helps...

i bought some stuff that had the same % active ingredient as simple green (purple power) but it didn't strip well for me. it could be because i overcoated the models pretty heavily. i heard that brake fluid worked well and i wasn't worried about melting the models as they were all metal so i tried a walmart variety (DOT 3 specification). after soaking for a few days, i had to toothbrush scrub the models i primed while the ones i got lazy on years ago (and skipped priming) the paint literally fell off the model in sheets as i was holding it. since you have brakes on canadian cars, i'm assuming they sell the fluid in local shops too. i can't verify whether or not it will damage plastic or resin, though. that doesn't necessarily help you with the ingredients but at least its another low cost alternative.

From what I gather, the active ingredient used in Simple Green is 2-Butoxyethanol (C6H14O2, EGBE).
