Happy Thanksgiving Dakka Dakka

I am very thankful for this site, and the users who post here. (Well, most of them )

It's 1:00 a.m. here, but if you're reading this on the west coast of the U.S. it might not be turkey-day yet! Or you might be in another country... I hadn't thought of that. But if you like you can post what you're thankful for here, anyway!

I'll be thankful if my middle nephew doesn't bring a girlfriend this year. Like all the men in my family, he has an uncanny knack for hooking up with trainwrecks just waiting to happen.

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

I'm thankful for my family's support (tough times) and my daughter and my friends. I am also thankful that I am healthy. Thankful for this site as well and happy almost all of the family will actually be together tomorrow/today.

Happy Thanksgiving all! I am thankful for my family, a roof over my head, food to eat, a great church, a job, W40K, and of course life itself.

Hey happy thanksgiving Jeb, I live with my American girlfriend, an she is cooking me a thanksgiving dinner!

Although.. minus a pumpkin pie cos she couldnt find a can of pumpkin anywhere!

Anyways, she pointed out that we should celebrate it too, as all the pilgrim blokes were English anyway?

If that is the case, then i demand a national holiday! After all, its almost a full month before Christmas, and would serve as an ideal warm up meal!

I am thankful for my friends who have stuck with me through a difficult year and a half, my persistent and wonderful wife, and for my supportive family (I forgot to say this above).

I asked my students this question yesterday, and almost every one (out of 90) said friends and family as 2 of the 3 things they were thankful for! Kind of shows what's important

I do have a serious question though, is thanksgiving really just an excuse to have another big family slap up meal a month before Christmas day, like a nice and fancy test run?

Oh and I know the historical reason, just always felt odd why you effectivly have the same day (family gathering) almost within a month of eachother.

Okay its probably not a terrible thing, just trying to get my head round it.

Yes and no. Christmas (For my family and I assume for most) is much more intensive and usually is kind of a few day, week long thing with gifts. Thanksgiving is much more about the meal! It is almost a food event as well as family. The meal is usually better as more attention is paid to it. A greater variety of dishes and desserts as well.

I never thought of it as a warm-up, but it kind of is in a way. It is certainly the official beginning of the holiday season and all of the marketing horror that entails.

These are my feelings and experiences about it, anyway. I'm sure there are others.

Happy Turkey Day everyone!

I am most thankful my wife, who is on her way to North Carolina to visit her grandparents. Unfortunately, I have to work early tomorrow and she woun't be leaving until mid-afternoon tomorrow, so I am spending Turkey day at home.

GoFenris has it right. Thanksgiving is a great excuse to see your family. Some of my family lives out of state, but they make the trip every Thanksgiving to come and have dinner with us. Thanksgiving is more about the family coming together to spend time with each other than anything else.

Happy Thanksgiving to all here at Dakka.

We are all preparing to go over the river and through the woods (or in our case up Highway 285 west) to Grandmothers house,to enjoy a day of feasting and family, and for this I am very thankful.

Now,please pass the sweetpotatoe pie.

@Matty - Mate, i've heard of these things you can use as a substitute for Pureed Pumpkin in a tin, you can find them at any supermarket.

They're called pumpkins.
