Hey all! I just have 2 small questions, not sure how to resolve them even after reading the rulebook:

If a ranger shoots at a landraider, can it take it down at all? From what I can see, if you manage to get rending, the maximum value you can achieve from a sniper weapon is 12. Am I wrong? They're considered str 3, and combined with a 6 to give a value of 9, then D3 would bring it up to 12 if a further 6 was rolled. In that way, can a sniper weapon ever be used to take down a Falcon, for example.

Second question - Thunderhammers appear only to affect multi-wound models. If a thunderhammer kills 2 models in a squad of Firewarriors, are the remaining squad members affected by its special rule?

1 Seems correct, just do not do that.

2 They are mostly for vehicles - for the initiative mod, you are correct.

Rending against vehicles allows you to roll D3 additional penetration on the roll of a 6 to penetrate. In other words, S3 + 6 + D3 = 12 maximum. So yeah, anything AV12 or lower can be hurt by an S3 rending weapon.

Thunderhammers refer to models, not units. So they only effect non-instakilled multiwound models and vehicles.
