Anyone tried it?

I'm looking for a fairly mindless conquer the universe type game. And I'm on one of my biannual Star Wars manias.

It's bad.

You should buy a Stompa instead.

People are like dice, a certain Frenchman said that. You throw yourself in the direction of your own choosing. People are free because they can do that. Everyone's circumstances are different, but no matter how small the choice, at the very least, you can throw yourself. It's not chance or fate. It's the choice you made.

Oh feth off you stupid gakker.

Anyway, it's a fun game, at least, I found it fun. I play it every now and then for the space battles, ground battles are a bore though.

It's pretty mindless IMO so it should meet your needs.

Personally, I didn't like it, but I'm a stickler for accuracy and detail in computer games (I'm more interested in "simulations" than "casual games"). The 40k equivalent of Empire @ War would place Ultramar right next to Holy Terra, Cadia in the Ultima Segmentum (away from the Eye of Terror), and feature underpowered Emperor-class battleships that could be easily taken down by a few destroyers.

I like it. There's some excellent mods for it that expand the game to mind-blowing proportions. Like the various Super-Star Destroyers (Eclipse anyone?)

I love it because under my guidance the Empire wins like it should have done before Lucas went all Mighty Ducks on us.

I liked it. As I mentioned in the thread where Kyoto first mentioned it, I'm one of the 8 people in the world who really liked Star Wars: Rebellion (SW: Supremecy to you UK'ers), so Empire at War was like a big 3D update of that. Not the same level of micromanagement, and with an added ground-based RTS element (which I hated and skipped wherever possible - far too paper/scissors/super-laser for my liking) and a VASTLY improved fleet combat mechanic. The characters were fun to use, having Darth Vader's squadron flying around in battles was great, and seeing Palpatine kill many Bothans himself was a treat - certainly a fun game.

I have the expansion, but I have not played it. It does have the Eclipse in it, a type of Star Destroyer which is just crazy!!!

Careful Noble. More talk like that and the DCGM will be wanting to have a 'talk' with you.

I knew there was a reason I liked you. I'm one of the other eight. I probably beat that game as either side a half dozen time before I lost the CD.

Only the space battles are okay.

I am absolutely addicted to the Space Battles.

The Campaign is fun, but seems to be dull after a while.

I absolutely dread the land battles however.

Some people play to win, some people play for fun. Me? I play to kill toy soldiers.

Weird. I enjoyed Rebellion but thought Empire at War was horrible.
