Was perusing WD360 yesterday (see also review in discussions) and there was a brief update on Tale of Four Gamers. The Eldar guy's army wasn't available for photography purposes because...

...it had been lent to the games developers for play testing.

I guess this could mean one of two things

1. They're working on Codex Eldar (yay!)

2. They're working on another Codex and needed an Eldar force to see how the new army played against it (Zzz... )

I think that was a Typo. It is a well known fact GW do not play test.

Or they were using it to help not play test the new Nid dex, as these are written months in advance.

It could be a slight mistake, and what they were actually doing was testing out playing the game.

Brief lapse in judgement. Those responsible for claiming GW conducts play testing have been sacked and replaced with more sycophants.

Hmm I certainly hope Eldar are getting a new dex soon hell what they mainly need is point tweaks and a few stats changes.

I'll just wade through the effluent and say I don't believe Craftworld Eldar are planned anytime soon, certainly not in 2009/10 IIRC.

Huzzah, the legendary Brimstone surfaces to comment on my thread I'm deeply honoured even though you are debunking my rumour.

I note that you specifically said Craftworld Eldar are not due in 2010...

This certainly doesn't mean Codex Eldar is getting redone soon. It might mean that GW is play testing another Codex. I think people around here confuse play testing with Codex balancing a lot. GW do play test the Codici, they just intentionally make it unbalanced (both internally and externally).

External imbalance (usually in the favor of the new released Codex), means more people will want to start the Army, because they are a stronger army.
Internal imbalance (usually making the units that were considered strong a poor choice and vice versa), means players that already played the army, will have to buy new units.

DEBUNK MODE NOW BRIM! Quick! Before we have Codex: Harlequin rumors afloat!

He probably said Craftworld Eldar just to make sure that people realize there's a chance for the Dark Eldar codex to find itself a slot in 2010.

Good thing Brim came here when he did, otherwise BOLS would be posting this a week from now as real news!

Hehehe.

I don't mean to bash BOLS... ok... well... I do... but for all the good stuff we get from them they do tend to post quite a bit of gak from time to time.

Kind've like me.

Kind of waiting to see if they start reposting the IA8 summary I put in the thread a few down, or the cover for Waiting Death that I put up too.

It'll be amusing!

That 'Waiting Death' cover is horrible.

I know I don't usually comment on book covers - as one shouldn't judge a book by it's cover... unless it's the current Chaos Marine Codex... what was I talking about... oh yes! - but that cover was a big silly and cartoony. Maybe they were going for that style, who knows. I don't like it.

And speaking of IA8, does Brim ever get any FW rumours, or just main studio stuff?

I dunno.

The Forge World guys aren't very tight lipped though. If you ask 'em when you're ordering on the phone or chatting 'em up at events--they'll usually talk.

The only caveat is they really don't want to spoil the campaigns.

Studio stuff mainly, no 40K Forgeworld rumours I'm afraid.

Brim - That's a shame. I'm honestly more interested in what FW is doing next than whatever half-assed half-finished project GW is currently lurching their way through.

I reckon you could get Warwick talking. Just jingle your keys in front of his face for a while until his eyes glaze over, then ask him whatever you want. You could probably even get him to sit on your knee.

...

Forget I said that last part...

I think the big news is that GW does playtest their books, just against one army. So the Nids book will be prefectly balanced, but only against that guys Eldar army.

I love talking to the FW guys, when they get on a roll some of them get this mad scientist look in their eyes.

Not true! GW does playtest!

First they write the new codex and send the details to the print sweatshops in China. Then get the studio to playtest to confirm it is awesome. By the time the finished codex is back in bundles and ready for sale studio will have confirmed the codex is just how it should be and will explain such in White Dwarf.
You see real playtesting, real quality control.

n'oublie jamais - It appears I now have to highlight this again.

Exalted Brimstone is certainly right.

Remarkably, he/she also responded in a thread about the future of DE.
In this thread I stated that DE will never get a new 'dex.
He/she said that 'hmm if you say so'. So there is hope even for us DE players.

Well I kind of moved near Toronto, actually.

Eldar aren't getting a new book, GW don't playtest. They are just dropping rumours.
