If yo umake a battl wagon a dedicated transport does it still count as a heavy support option, and thus take up a slot?

No.

Nobz/Meganobz dedicated BW takes up no HS slot, but they won't be able to take Killkannons if you're into those guns.
It is is possible for orks to take 8 BW's, it just takes a lot of points. It involves 2 warbosses, 5 Non-bike-Nobz/Meganobz, 5 dedicated BW's, 3 HS slot BW's. Fun concept, but as I said, a lot of points and you haven't even taken gear yet.

Something for you to try at 'Ard Boyz next year (you really do need 2500 points to make it viable) is the battlewagon spam: 6-8 battlewagons, most of which are full of nobs; and your heavy supports possibly being full of burnas depending on what you do with your elites.

At 2500 points I see them being blow to pieces by lascannons, or other anti tank that the enemy will have lots of.

they're armor 14. Don't forget that. Yes there will be alot of AT weapons, but 8 av 14 wagons is alot

14 on the front, and they WILL eventualy get to your side armour.

The point is, its not like battlewagons are easy to kill.

Lascannons aren't a threat. With a mek with a KFF, a lascannon shot has less than a 3% chance to do anything meaningful to a battlewagon's front armor, and a group of battlewagons crossing the field can readily formation in such a way to present front armor across the field while using each other (and trukks) to obstruct side armor facing to give you a 3+ cover save if someone is in the side arc facing.

I agree with pepper on that one. If your taking a bunch of battlewagons, dont be a fool. Run them close they can cover each others sides. Why else would you take so many battle wagons if your not going to dump serious cargo onto the same-ish area of the board.

And Mechboy for a 4+ save on those wagons!
