There's a kill team tournament at my LGW because of the new Nid codex and no matter how much I pestered I couldn't use mine, so I'm really stuck on what to get. Keep in mind I want this to be conversion crazy so orks are tempting, but I've never played kill team so, well... help! And I'm just asking but could some body maybe write a list of what would be good. I'm thinking MANY flamers

*facepalm*

To counter nids you need something that can stand up to MC's and something that can fry hordes.

What armies are you thinking of? How many points?

My first idea is Space Wolves and Wolfguard, combi-flamers and Termy armor + SS + PF for anti-mc.

He who fights with monsters might take care lest he thereby become a monster and if you gaze for long into an abyss, the abyss gazes also into you

Ummmm... Have you looked at... well... any website that is remotely to do with warhammer?

I'm kidding BTW

The staff haven't really told us much but it's a 2 week thing so I'm guessing it's a mix of scenarios using 160 points, but I'm not entirely sure... maybe 200? Anyway, I was leaning Space Wolves as well but a brilliant thought came to me. Salamanders. Played them once in 750 and I just got ripped :L. Any Other thoughts?

Orks.

The answer to hordes and monstrous creatures are the same: Burna boyz. Burna boys can roll up to two squads of genestealers and incinerate them both. They can roll up next to a terminator squad of 5, drop 15 templates on them, and cause 75 hits, 38 wounds, 6 dead termies on average. And most importantly....they can jump out of the battlewagon and assault two monstrous creatures at the same time and still come out on top; 15 burna boyz with three attacks on the charge each using power weapons....great for roasting MCs.

So your ideal kill team isn't actually a kill team at all?

If its kill team, i wouldn't worry about a MC coming into play. And even if they do bring in a carni. At least a powerfist or 2 is needed to bring it down. Remember tyrants is the only MC to get an invulnerable save. I would be more afraid of stealers or a warrior squad. And if that the case flamers are gonna rock that hard.

Truthfully for anti nids. if orks then burna boys or a big boyz squad with as many big shootas you can fit.

if your gonna run marines then bring termis with a heavy flamer.

I really cant tell you other armys cause i only play marines and bugs, and I play against alot of orks.

Erm....I guess I don't know what killteam is?

I figured that was what it sounded like....a team of players (two) killing the other team....making a killteam?

There were official rules for it in the 4th edition book (I think) but I don't think it's "officially" supported anymore, in that there are GW written guidelines for 5th edition. Basically, you use one codex to make a squad up to a certain points value with slightly altered restrictions, and each model operates independently instead of as a unit with 2" coherency.

So no battlewagons.

The event from the original post sounds like it'll be a bunch of players with kill teams against one player with a buttload of bugs, which would be awesome and by awesome I mean totally sweet.

So orks it is! Thought of the funny idea of uses scything claws stuck to a dude to make a klaw! Thank guys! Maybe if I pester enough I might be able to use bugs but I'm gonna buy some boyz next week!

And then after that there's the battalion battles. Getting Black Reach, using orks but thats another story!

Kill teams is just like gankobot said, small squad of characters made into a team, with special considerations to load out and restrictions.

It was designed to allow for quick games of WH40k to be played without the massive setup and play out of an actual full game. It's also interesting if you ever wanted to do scenario/rpg style game play, which was the second part of that section in the rules explanation in the 4th edition rulebook.

Basically, WH40k at the squad level, not the Army level. Does that help?

Cheers!

... I'm gonna buy some boyz next week!

I wouldn't get boyz if you're sure you'll only fight 'nids. Burna's are brilliant against almost any target, and say 6-7 of them with a few of something else (maybe Kommandos for some Shootas?) added in for good measure. It's just a shame you can't use a Power Klaw, but IIRC models with more than one wound are banned, so you can't use a Nob.

I don't think there banned? The staff said basically get and 'elite' squad of between 5-20 people (depending on the army. My friends using only grechings!). I thought it might be a good idea to use komando's, just for conversion purposes!

If you are going by the official 4th edition rulebook 'rules' then there are a lot of limits imposed regarding what kind of weapons you can have and what equipment you can give your guys. You get 160 points to spend and depending on what you take your opponent gets some extra brute squads. There are also some rules you can't break, and one of these is that no model can have more than one wound. I believe your not allowed more than one gun with a strength higher than 8, but I could be wrong.

I'm pretty sure Sternguard are designed to kill Tyranids. Get some heavy flamers in there, and some combi-meltas for the odd big creature.

Q: How many of a specific demographic group are required to carry out a simple task?
A: An arbitrary number. One to carry out the task in question, and the remainder to act in a manner stereotypical of the group.

Thats what I was thinking.

Stern with combi-flamers and a combi-melta or 2 should make a mess, combined with that special issue ammo.

5 Stern with 5 combis is 150 pts.
