I have been debating on whether or not to start a demon army for awhile. Except that it will be an Undead army. The rules are perfect for the type of Undead army I want to run, which is an "otherworldly" type of Undead as opposed to the normal ghosts, skeletons, zombies, etc. Basically creatures straight from the Netherworld and their supporting forces. The one thing that has stopped me though is that I already have 2 armies that I need to finish painting and I really don't want to have build and paint another one.

But, I saw some new Rackham models that are coming out within the next month or so, and since they are pre-built and prepainted, problem solved!

This could be some sort of Slaanesh or Tzeentch Herald or Demon Prince.

The female could be used also as a Tzeentch of Slaanesh Herald or Demon Prince, with those in the background counting as Bloodletters.

The skeletons here will probably count as Plaguebearers.

If those are the final paint jobs that will be produced then I see me only have to do some repaints on a few figures. Throw in some Reaper models and this army is good to go. There are also some older metal figures that are coming out in plastic such as the Almighty Crane (old metal version shown here) that could count as a Greater Demon of some sort.

So for those of you that run demon armies or have played against them, what are some good builds to run? What are, in your opinion, absolutely "must haves" in a demon army?

There are three proven competitive lists:

• Tallyman list
Tallyman, GUO, Plague Bearers, nurglings & Soul Grinders

• Daemonic Zilla
5x Monstrous Creatures (all winged & you can switch daemon princes Grinders)

• Fateweaver/Blood Crusher spam

I would run the Masque with the third list for pavane.

If I were going to be using the models and themes you have in mind, I'd definitely go Epidemius mono-Nurgle (the Tallyman list previous poster refers to). A vast majority of those armies are either Plaguebearers or Nurglings, which would help keep things simple for a counts-as army.

It's also a really short thematic jump from Epidemius/Nurgle to an Undead horde, since you play an army with all these slowly-advancing (the entire army minus the Nurglings or Nurgle Daemon Princes being Slow & Purposeful) zombie folks who start off fairly weak, but need to kill X amount of enemy soldiers to increase their power. That female model holding the book probably wouldn't make a half bad Epidemius, though she's a bit small. That thing you posted at the end would be a great Daemon Prince (Epidemius armies rely heavily on Breath of Chaos or Daemonic Gaze Nurgle Daemon Princes to get the Tally up early, since the rest of the army sucks at killing things), and then all you'd need is something to represent Nurglings and a Great Unclean One.

I like these two. The Demon Zilla I may run for Apocalypse games. I'm guessing Fateweaver moves with the Blood Crushers for the reroll ability to keep them alive longer?

Yeah, I can definitely see the core of the army being Plaguebearers with Bloodletters supporting. Definitely need some GD or DP with wind of chaos or Gaze if I am taking Epidemius. I have no idea what I would use as Nurglings at the moment that fits the fluff of my army, but for Epidemius and a GUO I could use these two respectively.

Yep the Fateweaver keeps within 6" of the Crushers. This spam list pretty much created the force bubble style of play now so prevalent in 40k 5th edition.
