There's a new GamesWorkshop store opening near me in Thousand Oaks, CA. Should open next week, afaik. I drove by it last night, and, as an ork player, I was pleasantly surprised by their choice of signage:

Thousand Oaks, eh? Perhaps 35 minutes from their Glendale location, which closed down recently.

I think Glendale is still open, and it's more like an hour away. They had a location in Canoga Park that closed earlier this year, though. And that's about 30m away.

I'm not actually going to be /shopping/ at the GW. I'd show up to play, though. There are much better places to buy minis and supplies like The Hidden Fortress in Simi. He gives 15% off retail, which is generally a better price than online, considering there's no shipping.

People still live in 1k Oaks? Wow.

Love the sign though. They should keep it that way.

I haven't dropped by Glendale because I thought it was closed, can anyone give confirmation that it's really open?

Yup unfortunately Glendale is still opened. Same old horrible manager and staff trying to push sales on 10 year vets. Its a long way that store has fallen. I dont know if its just them but they dont even let you use the paint bar unless you have GW paints, models, materials. To bad... i loved hanging out there, but now its just a kindergarten/last attempt at sales before closing orgy(insert sad face)

I'm pretty sure there aren't many GW stores that do.

I get away with using some vallejo paints at my local store (GW) but as far as models, the rules are the rules, especially when a district manager spends a decent amount of time in that store.

I was told the Glendale Games Workshop will be open until the end of the year. I don't have to go down there anymore as of Dec. 12th when the GW in Thousand Oaks opens down the street from my house!

The Glendale store is still open. I have not heard any rumors of it closing. Which would not make a difference to me, other than popping in when the wife goes shopping in the Galleria.

Even though the glendale store is 5 minutes from me, I prefer to drive 30 minutes to Pasadena and play at Games Empire. Now that is a great place to play. More tables and less "daycare" feeling.

I asked the Glendale store manager back around Halloween, and I believe he said the plan was to stay open until January or so. They were looking for another location in the Glendale area, specifically in a strip mall type setting and not an enclosed mall (the Galleria location always struck me as a bad choice).

Yeah, i find that location odd as well. Very small and crowded. Not much room to game.

They should move to the abandonded Mervyns next to them and make a battle bunker out of it. ha

So GW Glendale is still open? Meh. I've not been to the Galleria in months. It's really an awful place--the Galleria, that is. Even as far as malls go it's depressing.

While I've been out the game for some time, I've been into Game Empire several times since it moved into the old GameZone space. It's really fantastic: big, open, lots of tables. My only qualm is that last I checked they still don't take American Express. I suppose I can't blame them--margins in the industry must be razor-thin.

I also drove by there and they had a sign that said open 12/3 ? I thought the sign was funny too. It was the Northridge store that closed earlier this year. I was really hoping that there was a possibility that they would reopen it. A couple days ago my friend I play with said that one was opening 5 minutes from my house. I'm pretty happy about that.

I didn't see a sign talking about opening date, but the GW site says the 12th.

But I also heard the 3rd from a guy I know. So, maybe they open on the 3rd, but the 'Grand Opening' is on the 12th? I dunno. I'll swing by this weekend and see.

I'm not really interested in buying a whole lot there, but it'll be nice to have a place to play with other people.

It's got that new store smell.

Other than that, just the regular things you'd find in a Games Workshop store.

I suggest visiting before the kids get their greasy kid stuff all over the place.

I was suprised at how many people were in there on opening day. There was a couple of parents and kids shopping and a couple of people building models already.

I went in on Friday around noon. Just employees in there. Regional Manager tried to sell me all kinds of stuff, but the store manager was real friendly and didn't. So I'm hoping that it'll be a nice place to play. Calendar said that 40K was on Weds and then on the weekends.

GW Glendale is at the back of the mall in a pillbox sized store. It would be nice if they get a decent sized store. The staff are ok and not too pushy. Game Empire in Pasadena is a gamer's heaven. That place is loaded with games for almost every taste and its big with a lot of tables and chairs. The owner has a vast knowledge base so you can ask him anything on gaming.

Holy crap, I just checked out Gaming Empire's website. That place is amazing. It's about 40 minutes away from where I live so that's great.
