If an independent character with Eternal Warrior is in a squad that loses combat and flees, only to be chased down and destroyed, is the character with Eternal Warrior also destroyed?

Yes.

yes. you are removed from play, not effected by instant death, so your eternal warrior does jack squad to help you.

though, I can't really think of many models with eternal warrior who aren't fearless....

Yes. He is just removed from the game.

This is the scenario that begs the question.
Maugan-Ra joins a squad of guardians on top of a hill, my squad of genestealers with Flesh Hooks assault them and kill 8 of the 15 man squad. Maugan-Ra and the Squad attack me in return and I lose two Genestealers.

Since Maugan-Ra is with a squad that is not fearless, he loses this rule, and when they break, he is caught in the sweeping advance.

Yup. That's how it works all right. Bad squad for him to join.

It's not that he loses the rule per se, it's just that Sweeping Advance and Eternal Warrior don't actually interact at all.

no, he means he looses fearless, so he can fall back, because he's not with a fearless squad.

Guess IC loses it if they join troops that aren't, and IC's gain it if they join them if they are. Just couldn't remember which way it goes

It goes that way round - the way you would expect.

Expect?

I expect my warriors fearing the ICs wrath (if they'd think about leaving) more than they fear the enemy.

I also think that if my IC is already a (replacing a word) puppy, then why would a bunch o' random guys (if they were fearless ;P) suddenly make him the hero of the day. The random guys really scare/inspire him that much? ;(

Ed: Not trying to justify with "real life examples", you just brought up "expect"
