Because my dad kicks much ass he made me this for Xmas. It is a dining room table for my house that conceals a modular board beneath. Awesome!

Here it is in dining table mode:

Game table mode:

and with some pieces removed. You can see he just did support frames across the bottom so I can easily remove table sections.

Now I just need to paint and seal it!

(And for the RoB Board haters, I won it at Seattle GT so I never parted with my precious $300 to get it )

That's cool. Are you going to try and get or make more sections for the board to add increased variety into it?

Your dad is awesome. And so is that table. I would definitely try to make a variety of different sections. Maybe do it so that there are a lot of permutiations for what you can put in

This is excellent.

Your dad must have used wooden dowels to make that under frame.

We all dream of having that table to play on.

Hang on a minute!
Why not just put the rob board sections on top of the table?
It would leave a nice little lip for casualties and dice etc around the outside and you wouldnt have to lug the tabletop around.
Whilst I appreciate the execution and craftsmanship that has gone into this great looking board it hasn't actually saved much in the way of time and effort.
Sure, you won't have to store the rob board anywhere or shift it around and set it up but that's about it.
The depth of the frame is too shallow to allow for models/terrain to stay on the board whilst it is quickly covered mid game but deep enough to cause los issues.
I'm not trying to be a dick here but this needs a bit of a rethink imho.

Because from what I've heard the clip that are supposed to hold the RoB together are kind of crappy. With a set up like this you don't need any kind of clips to hold the table together, as they'll just fit into place and not slide around at all. Would also be easier to make your own additional sections to fit into the table with the lack of aforementioned clips.

A few solutions...........
Perhaps a frame built onto the underside of the tabletop would work. Flip the top and presto!
A hinged/pushfit wooden or pvc frame.
Also a decent tablecloth underlay is slightly rubberised and would do a similar job.
I'm sure that it would be possible to find some metal clips somewhere.
I've also wondered whether it would be possible to use a bolt/washer/wingnut system to hold the ROB together?

Definitely going to make more sections.

As Aduro says, the clips are crappy. Space is also at a premium in my home so not having to store my board, or my low lying terrain is very handy. Also covering it with models and then putting the top on was never our intention. Though Dread sized models easily sit on the lower areas.

Seriously? Flip the table, pvc frames, bolt and wingnut systems? These are your "solutions" for saving time and elegantly holding the table together? I'm glad that you're a fan of the classic hodge-podge approach, but we were looking for something that let me have a dual purpose table, saved a bit on storage space, and looked nice both when gaming and when my home was not being a dork haven. We gave it quite a bit of thought and I'm very happy with the results. Also, when you have to declare you're not being a dick it's typically a sure sign that you're being one.

Oh just noticed @Old Man Ultra
He used, biscuit joins I believed he called them to make the under frame. Kinda like dowel only longer and flat.

This table rocks hard!

Many gamers don't have space for a dedicated gaming room, so letting the dining room table do BOTH is a great idea!

It reminds me of those old spy movies where someone flips a switch and all of a sudden the furniture transforms into a command center!

Rock on!
When's your first game on it?

I think your missing the point, this one looks like a proper piece of furniture you would find in a proper home store, not a cobbled together basement gameing table. This one works as a dining room table, and won't make your wife want a divorce.

So you like the ideas of tablecloth underlay and metal clips then.
These were more ideas for holding the RoB sections together, not the table itself.

You're one of the few people to get it at a fair and reasonable price then.

I like it, I really want a table like that myself. The supports underneath are a good idea.

I'm sorely tempted to get the last one from my FLGS at the moment. They've gotten it marked all the way down to a mere $100.

That is pretty cheap... Id do it if I were you but then again you can also make a cooler looking table with foam soooo maybe not... as for OP... AAAAWWWWSSSSOOOOOOMMMEEEE! I envy you!

EDIT: You should deffinitely talk your dad into making a tutorial and putting it in the tutorials section for us!
